Lesley...

are you in Michigan? I live in Romulus by Metro Airport. Are you anywhere near me?

We do not have a Starband, we have a Danmar helmet and we go through Children's Hospital in Detroit.

Re: CT vs. Star vs. Hanger and United HealthCare

We were not successful in getting UHC to pay for our band either. However we have the STAR band and in Michigan it seems to be much less expensive- $1600 out of pocket. I was told by our orthotist that babies with the STAR band are less likely to need a second band because there is more foam to work with than the DOC band. I would probably go for the STAR band due to that but Not sure what the prices are in your area... Lesley>> My son is about to graduate from his DOC Band next week after 14 weeks of treatment and they are recommending a second band. I am still fighting with UHC for payment on the first band (it was denied due to an exclusion in the policy under Durable Medical Equipment). My question is - does anyone have UHC and was successful in getting them to pay for your child's band? If you were successful in getting UHC to pay for it which company did you use - CT, Star or Hanger? Thank you!>

I have UHC also and they refused Hanger, CT, and Starband so we had to pay out of pocket for our Hanger band. I didn't bother fighting it though because I know I'd probably lose anyway.
