I honestly cannot say for sure that these are legal. I have not personally

pursued getting a written statement from Applegate Farms as to what is in their

" organic spices " . You would have to know EXACTLY... and they might not want to

reveal their proprietary blend. I would not want to risk this, based on past

experience with hotdogs from another company (Shelton's) .... where the recipe

was changed (without notice) to include potato starch. I just want to sleep at

night, so I can't recommend parents use these. It's up to you to verify the

ingredients for your own family's use..... and PLEASE pull them back out if ANY

negative symptoms pop up.

Legal hotdogs?

Are the organic stadium hotdogs by Applegate Farms legal? The

ingredients are:

Organic beef

Water

Sodium Lactate (from beets)

Sea Salt

Organic garlic

Celery juice

Organic spices

Organic Paprika

Lactic Acid Starter culture (Not from dairy)

Thanks,

Maureen

I strongly concur Patti. If the late ny Cocharane (O.J. trial) were alive,

he'd say, " If in

doubt, leave it out. " :-)

Is it garlic powder and onion powder, or fresh garlic and onion? And, what else

falls into their spices category besides the paprika, garlic, and onion?

Unless the company will reveal to you, in writing, what's actually under that

heading " spices " , you cannot be sure these are legal. We can't recommend that

you use them on SCD. Legally, manufacturers are allowed to hide all kinds of

things and just call them " spices " . I'm sure this company means well.... but

you'd need it detailed in writing. Hard copy, not e-mail. And then, you'd have

to remember that they could change their recipe at any time without notifying

you.

Hello,

I was following your thread a little bit and I thought I would share my

experience with Applegate Farm Turkey Dogs. My son had behavioral reactions to

them because they contain " spices " . This is MSG. Not all people react to this

but my son who is 3 has strong reactions to it according to blood test and with

my observations. Processed food is processed food for us.

Hello All

Applegate Hotdogs are good hotdogs and do not have MSG. I was mistaken.

According to a sales representative at Applegate Farms " spices " are white

pepper, garlic, coriander, mace, onion, ginger and cardamom. I should have

confirmed my suspicions before I posted that. Please except my apologies.

However, we still cannot deem this product legal for SCD. An individual who

desperately desires to use this product would need to get a hard copy letter of

guarantee mailed to them from the manufacturer listing all ingredients in their

product, and stating that there are no other ingredients in the product. Garlic

could be fresh garlic or garlic powder. Garlic powder would automaticly make

the hotdogs illegal because all commerically produced garlic powders use some

sort of starch as an anticaking agent. If you make your own, you'll understand

why.
