Guest guest
How can I tell the difference between a negative reaction to the goat yogurt and a die off reaction? I started giving my dd goat yogurt (1 tbsp/day) 3 days ago. She has become very clingy and irritable and is unable to sleep. She is waking up 2 hours early and took hours to fall asleep tonight. This is VERY unusual behaviour for her. I'm trying to decide if this is something we should ride out, or we should stop giving her the yogurt. Guest guest
If you're not seeing her have a scratchy throat, hives or other emergency reaction, it is probably die-off. Epsom salts baths will help or some magnesium taurate. How much did her? Jenn L How do I tell? How can I tell the difference between a negative reaction to the goat yogurt and a die off reaction? Freezing will kill the beneficial probiotic lactic acid bacteria. Give your child a small amount of frozen yogurt(a dose equal to the amount of fresh yogurt that you are giving him.)If your child tolerates it,then it is not the dairy that is bothering her but the probiotics inside the yogurt. Guest guest
, We suggest starting with a much smaller amount of goat yogurt than that..... only 1/8 or 1/4 of a tsp. The probiotics are quite powerful, and can bring on more die-off. You didn't say how long she has been on SCD.... can you get back to me on that. As Carol suggested, you could freeze some yogurt.... or cook it in some SCD muffins or something.... to kill the bacteria. Then, if you're getting the same reaction, it will be clear that it's the dairy itself. If she tolerates it, you'll know it was the probiotics.... and that you either need to introduce it MUCH more slowly, in smaller amounts. Is she taking supplements of acidophilus? Guest guest
Hi Patti, has been on the diet for 3.5 months. Prior to the SCD we had her gluten/casien free, but didn't see any results so I didn't think she was sensitive to dairy. Of course, I could be wrong on that. We are trying the frozen goat yogurt today. If she doesn't react to that over the next couple days, I'll try her at 1/8 tsp. She had been taking Genetra's HMF replete on the advice of our DAN! doctor, but she didn't seem to have any reaction to that at all. I stopped it when I started the yogurt. > > , > > We suggest starting with a much smaller amount of goat yogurt than that..... only 1/8 or 1/4 of a tsp. Guest guest
, Did you realise the HMF Replete is illegal on SCD? It contains bifidus strains, as well as FOS. This could have been undermining progress on SCD all the time you've used it. In fact, I would not be surprised at someone seeing die-off just from stopping this product! It *may* not have been a reaction to the SCD yogurt at all, if you just recently stopped it when you started giving her the yogurt. Patti Re: How do I tell? Guest guest
No, Patti, I didn't realize it was illegal. Grrr! I was using it because the DAN! Dr. told me it was okay to use on SCD. Yes, I know I should have researched myself, but I since this dr. recommended SCD to us I thought he would know what supplements I could use. Are all Genestra products illegal? Because we also use the Pediatrivite and Cal-Mag Multi liquid on his instructions. Now, I'm not really sure what to do? > > , > > Did you realise the HMF Replete is illegal on SCD? Guest guest
, It's so very frustrating, to all of us, that the DAN docs recommend SCD, but don't understand the strict parameters of the diet.... and don't even bother to double check all the supplements they prescribe. I don't think they get it.... that it really does matter. I don't know about the other Genestra supplements.... I will have to go look at their website. This is something that you can do.... by comparing the label with our legal/illegal supplement additive list on www.pecanbread.com in the " Supplements " area. I will go check these in a minute, just b/c I have time at the moment... but I can't always check every product. I'll get back to you... Patti Re: How do I tell? Guest guest
, Very sorry to bring you bad news.... Pediatrivite Liquid by Genestra contains the following: " Natural Wild Cherry Flavor and Fructose " Then, to be honest, I am not exactly sure if I've got the right Cal-Mag product here.... there are very few websites out there that sell Genestra products and MOST of them did not list the labeled ingredients. From the one website I did find, they don't list a product named " Cal-Mag Multi liquid " ....... But, they did have a " Cal Mag Liquid 2 " . I don't believe the website lists ALL the ingredients that are in this product.... but they do say that it has: " Natural Fruit Punch Flavor " . That makes me HIGHLY suspicious that this has illegal sugars in it.... and to be honest, both products being liquid suspensions, I think it's likely they have some sort of gum to hold the vitamins and minerals in suspension. You can probably read the label on the products you have there and if you're not sure, just list them all out in an e-mail to me privately (durovchic@... ) , and I'll be able to tell you. Hopefully, they've listed ALL of the " other ingredients " .... that's usually where you find lurking illegals. I know you want to do what your doctor says to do.... but darn it, you will never make headway on SCD with these supplements in. You just have to find legal alternatives. Patti Re: How do I tell? Guest guest
Patti, Thank you so much for letting me know. I didn't expect you to actually research them for me; I thought you might know off the top of your head. But, I really do appreciate the effort and time it took. This group has been a lifesaver in implementing the diet. I mainly do search & read, but the information is invaluable. Thanks again, > > , > > Very sorry to bring you bad news.... > > Pediatrivite Liquid by Genestra contains the following: >
