Guest guest
MY husband, , had his 1st ERCP today. The docs thought that he had SOD. Turns out he doesn't. Brief history: 26 yo male w/out history of heavy drinking. Acute Pancreatitis 4 times over 1 1/2 year period, always following a heavy/fatty meal. No gallstones. The doctor found that the part of his pancreas that crosses over the spine is damaged, and the duct is narrow right there. He doesn't know about the narrow duct, but says that the damaged area is " almost certainly " from a childhood trauma. He did not to anything because he says that my husband is so young, and otherwise very healthy. He said to keep meals small etc, and to keep taking the enzymes...and hope it doesn't happen again. I shot out a good number of questions during the 3 minutes I had with him, but I wasn't very clear on the CP part. He said that the small area right over the spine appears to be CP. He was very ho-hum about it. I was freaked. He also said that it is likely that the inflamed area is causing the pancreatitis, not the narrow duct. This does not make sense to me. Seems to me that the narrow duct would get overwhelmed by the large amounts of juice produced with these fatty meals? Right? He said that the localized CP would not spread, as long as he didn't continue to have bad attacks. True? I don't know. I guess that I just got the feeling that he found things that he didn't expect or know how to explain. He also said that he want to do a EUS to " confirm " what he thinks. URG. Any advice in this area would be appreciated, folks. in KY
