Guest guest
Is this one of the reasons why juicing is so important VS eating the whole fruit? (Besides easier to digest) Sure don't want to feed any bad microbes! No one in our family has diarrhea problems so I thought the juicing was not essential - but now I'm thinking we need a juicer. The thought of juiced veggies is a complete turn off to me, but juiced fruit I can envision I'm also thinking I might get our son to take one swallow of juice compared to getting him to eat fruit. I'm having to change my thinking about juice - I've always thought that eating the whole fruit was better for you / more wholesome, natural, etc. hence, we do not drink juice around here. But I've read about the benefits of juicing for helping the body detoxify too. Can diarrhea problems turn up after starting the diet - when the book talks about " do this or don't do that " until the diarrhea clears, can the diarrhea be caused by die off / clearing out the junk in the gut ? Or is this in reference to people that already have diarrhea? W. SCD Jan 2007 Zachariah age 12, dyslexic ----- Original Message ----- From: Sheila Trenholm It probably isn't a good idea to use this pulp especially for newbies. When you remove all the good stuff in the juice (vitamins, minerals..) you'll be left with concentrated cellulose. This concentrated cellulose can feed the harmful microbes we're trying to starve. If you do use juices at all, home-juicing is the safest way to ensure you have zero additives or illegals, that's all. With apple juice, this seems to be the easiest way. Always dilute. It is actually preferred to be eating whole, PEELED and COOKED fruits, in the beginning. <<Can diarrhea problems turn up after starting the diet>> << can the diarrhea be caused by die off / clearing out the junk in the gut ? >> Yes.... it can be from die-off, and should be temporary. <<- when the book talks about " do this or don't do that " until the diarrhea clears, Or is this in reference to people that already have diarrhea? >> Yes, the diet was created for people with GI disorders like colitis and Crohn's disease, who usually have diarrhea issues. I use my juicer for several other functions , making sherbet from frozen pieces of fresh fruit, making " truffles " by grinding nuts and dried fruit. Right now I am not eating many calorie dense foods so it's idle. Carol F.

Guest guest
These are Elaine's instructions: Elaine wanted us to wait until brisk D was over before trying the raw juices. She wanted us to be sure to dilute them. If you are a beginner to SCD then you need to use a traditional juicer rather than a blender or a Vitamix. The Vitamix and the blender do not eliminate the difficult to digest parts. You probably have to wait a couple of months before using a Vitamix or a blender for making juice from raw veggies or fruits. Guest guest
One more thing about juicing, the juicers that spin the juice really fast destroy the enzymes in the juice. By leaving the pulp out you are leaving out the part your body has to work to digest. The juice can be completely digested in 20 minutes and all those nutrients from the fruits and vegetables are readily available for your body to absorb. There are some great books on juicing that tell you what kind of things to juice for different ailments. Carrot/apple juice is a healthy and tasty one. -- [Norton AntiSpam] Re: Re:was Is elli's legal? now: juice vs fruit? Guest guest
Hi , << Is this one of the reasons why juicing is so important VS eating the whole fruit? (Besides easier to digest) Sure don't want to feed any bad microbes! >> No, this isn't a reason why juicing is important over eating a whole fruit. I was explaining that eating the pulp that has the juice (and natural enzymes) removed gives too large a concentration of cellulose. Large amounts of concentrated cellulose like this are harder to digest and are more likely to end up feeding some nasty microbes. Juicing is good, *if* you are able to tolerate the juices. Newbies should always start with diluted juices - because it's a big " hit " of natural sugars and can be tough on those with bowel issues. BUT eating whole fruit and veggies is also very important. The pulp when eating as a whole food, and not juice, provides bulk necessary for the formation of stool. For those unable to tolerate raw fruits and veggies, peeled and cooked fruit and vegetables are still a good source of important nutrients. << Can diarrhea problems turn up after starting the diet - when the book talks about " do this or don't do that " until the diarrhea clears, can the diarrhea be caused by die off / clearing out the junk in the gut ? Or is this in reference to people that already have diarrhea? >> In the book I believe that that refernce is to those who already have diarrhea. However, you can develop diarrhea as a result of die off as the toxins of the starving microbes leave the body.
