Guest guest
Hi : I had the MGB on 9/25/00 and so far my weight loss is right on target. As of today I have lost 27.5 pounds and hope to reach 30 by the 25th of this month. I still take the same dosage of thyroid medicine that I did before surgery. Dr. R. told me not to take any the day of surgery 9/25 and to start retaking it 9/29 which is what I did. I just make sure I take it first thing in the morning on an empty stomach and by itself so that nothing will interfere with the absorption. I allow 45 min to 1 hour before eating or taking any other meds. My PCP says that as my weight comes off she will have to adjust the dosage lower because I will not need as much. I will see her this week to and she will tell me how often to get tested. I know she will test me this week because my level was off right before surgery due to me taking the meds along with my calcium pills (which I found out is a no no because the calcium blocks the absorption. I guess prescription drugs are not like our vitamins and minerals from foods tha t do not get absorbed because I am not taking double/triple doses. Guest guest
Hi , I have hypothyroidism. I had my MGB 5-31-00 and resumed my thyroid med 2 weeks after surgery. The dosage is the same and I've had my blood tested 3 times since surgery and all is well. There doesn't seem to be a malabsorbtion problem with medications. Guest guest
Hi Genz, Glad to see you back. I am also glad to hear that everyone is working through the tragedy that you all have faced recently. I had a dear friend lose her daughter in an accident at the school where we my youngest child attends. The next year will be the hardest in their life. My prayers are with you all. Thanks for the hypo info. How far away from 100% weight loss are you. Did you lose most of it in the first year? Thanks,
Guest guest
Hi , I'm almost 5 months post-op. I would still like to lose 60-70 pounds. I'm 5'3 " and that would put me at 123-133 lb. range. I'm losing about 2 pounds a week now. The majority of my weight came off the first two months. It's a slow but steady loss...but that's ok because my skin still looks good. I've broken it down for you. starting weight-249 1 month--226 down 23 2 months-215 down 11 for the month 3 months-206 down 9 4 months-199 down 7 5 months-193 down 6 If this pattern continues I will be at goal weight in about 10 months to a year. That's ok with me too because it took me years to get this big. I'm healthier and more active with the weight I've already lost. My life expectancy has gone from 78 to 95 years old. Once I lose all my weight I should live to be 150 years old....:-) I must tell you that this weight loss has been achieved without a formal exercise program. My life has been very hectic since surgery but I am much more active. Thank you for your kind words about our loss. I anticipate some rough roads ahead for Coby's family. I'm am terribly sorry to hear of your friend's terrible loss too. Thanks again. Love, Genz wrote: > Hi Genz, > Glad to see you back.
