Guest guest
Interesting question. I was not aware that Digestive Wellness had verified that this brand of juice was legal. I don't ever buy anything from their site, so was not aware of it. They must have written confirmation that these are legal.... but did not discuss this with any of us here at pecanbread. Since Elaine is now no longer with us, there is really no one to " officially " deem new products legal. This has to be up to the individual to verify in writing for themselves... we don't have the power to put anything on the " legal " list in an official sense, and as far as I know, neither does Digestive Wellness. I'm sure they have only the best of intentions in the products they offer.... but you'd need to ask them why they've deemed these to be legal and not others. The logic behind the whole juice concentrate issue is complicated. Some of the " officially legal " juices are indeed from concentrate. There is NO commercially bottled/canned apple or pear juice that is legal.... concentrated or not. Elaine didn't want anyone to use the frozen concentrated grape or orange juices.... because they often contain illegals. If I had a kid that was that sensitive, I would run out and buy a juicer (if I didn't already have one) and make my own fresh pear juice. They are pretty low, aren't they? Just seems easier. The pomegranate concentrate may be okay.... who knows? You need to contact Digestive Wellness and quiz them, or get written confirmation from the company that makes the juices. Even then, that just makes it okay for your family.... we can't add them to the legal list here. Wish we could. Patti Juices Me again with some juice questions - sorry! Just wondering why ready- made juices are ok and concentrates are not. Also - I noticed the Dynamic Health brand bluberry juice concentrate (along with papaya, cherry, and a couple others) are on the Digestive Wellness website. I'm confused about the juices vs. concentrate thing, and IF the concentrates on the DW website are ok, why not Dynamic Health pomegranate concentrate? I only ask because my son is VERY salicylate- sensitive and blueberries, cherries, grapes, and oranges contain them - pomegranates do not. Thanks again for your help! :-)

This is posted on our website which is full of valuable extra information about SCD. www.pecanbread.com and here is the explanation you requested. http://www.pecanbread.com/foodprep.html#homemade Carol F. Guest guest
From Elaine's Site: Pomegranate concentrate Illegal She was concerned about the seeds in the pom, that they are too starchy... -Dena Patti wrote: Interesting question. Guest guest
OH....ok! I will check out Elaine's site. As of now I had only been checking pecanbread.com which only lists legal fruits and veggies on each stage (1-5). Thank you, Dena and Patti, for your help! Patti - I will check with Digestive Wellness about how they came to declare those particular concentrates " legal. " Thanks to you both! > Interesting question. As of now I had only > been checking pecanbread.com which only lists legal fruits and > veggies on each stage (1-5). BTW: Please be aware that The Stages is not intended to encompass ALL legal foods. It just suggests an order in which to introduce them vis a vis ease of digestion. Elaine did not create The Stages and was concerned that because it couldn't possibly include the myriad of permitted foods We worried that people would get the impression that you did. Again, The Stages is a guideline based on parents' reports of what they found in degrees of digestability. As such it can be useful. Sorry you misunderstood. Carol F.
