Guest guest
Hello Patti or anyone out there, I am very new to this and probably should have been prepared for this. We took on information about pain relief (post: big mistake) and now doctor has prescribed antibiotics. I am trying old methods to help ear infection (olive oil/garlic etc). Any other suggestions would be great but what do I do if she must have antibiotics. Doctor was good and looked up one without sugar but I really would prefer not to muck her diet up too much. Guest guest
Venessa, My daughter had an ear infection just a few months ago. I took her in just to be sure that's what it was, because since she's very low functioning, cognitively.... and almost totally non-verbal.... we can never really be sure where pain is coming from. I discussed the treatment options with him..... and he told me that studies show that, at least with OLDER kids (not babies and toddlers) antibiotics don't really help kids get better any faster than they would on their own. With his blessing, we went home and did the olive oil and garlic ear drops..... and used heat (a flaxseed pillow that I warm in the microwave)... had her lay her ear down on that. At first I had to force her to stay still and lay her head on it (made sure it wasn't too hot, of course).... but then, I think she realised it made it feel better, and she'd stay there. We gave her decongestant and extra vitamin C and kept up her CLO, which she gets anyway.... and she got better without the antibiotics. We had agreed to bring her back in if she wasn't better within three days.... but she was fine. No problems, and no antibiotics. You just have to monitor it closely and have a " Plan B " in place.... use common sense. Guest guest
Dear Patti, Thank you! Thank you! Thank You! I feel so much better now and will keep on using the old fashioned remedies. Jenna is 4 in April and do amazingly on the diet. I feel so empowered with all of the new information I am learning and feel like I am in control of what is happening to my kids for once. If I get through this without antibiotics, it will be a first! I hope I win this battle. Thank you again. Venessa. > > Venessa, > > My daughter had an ear infection just a few months ago.
