Guest guest
Kaye, I'm sorry to hear what else has happened to you. I can understand the pain you have gone through with the clot. I've been in that same situation with a picc line in my arm. Caused a clot near the site, and a 6 inch one in my jugular. The medical staff still will not use my left side for anything unless it is an emergency, but I at least have been able to have a Port put in place, so still have a good access. I know that they can take blood from an artery, but not sure about an IV being put in place. They tried to get my Femoral artery once, but the needle wasn't long enough. My doctor at the time was able to obtain some blood from an artery in my arm, in the crease of my elbow. Not being in the medical field at all, I can't help you very much. Just give you the details of veins/arteries others have tried to access me with. The PICC line specialists at Vanderbilt hospital even used an ultrasound to try and find veins. As soon as the needle entered past my skin, the veins just disappeared. Guess they went into hiding.
