Today I had planned a day with friends. However, at about 9:00 a.m.

PST, I got this pleasant call from Wheelchairs of Berkeley. I had sort of

given up and was using my old wheelchair as needed.

Well, these two delightful techs arrived with the new version of my new

wheel chair (hand pushed and pulled) and they adujusted it all and every

thing and I was just thrilled--almost the same as the predecessor (still in

trunk of my car) but a lot better quality!

The real excitement came when I looked at what Medicare and Medicaid

combined had paid for it: $1,732.00. Now this amased me as I had pur

chased with CASH the first little roller prior to my joint replacements,

but before my back got rather bad, and my feet feel apart, due to the negli

gence of their owner!

The first, and nearly identical model had cost CASH $5,000.00, which I

had from retirement benefits at that time.

I have learned a great deal in obtaining a new chair; the following physi

cians wrote LETTERS OF MEDICAL NECESSITY TO THE PROVIDER to

be sent to MEDICARE, and if they were to approve it, which they did, then

Medicaid would kick in, too, which they did:

othopedic surgeon; orthopedist; neurologist; neurolo-surgeon, internest,

podiatrist, endocrinologist (observations); MS neurologist who assists

the primary neurologist--you get the point!

I got so turned on that a friend (who could carry the groceries) and I spent

much, but not all of the day at Whole Foods buying organic and other good

stuff--and I am being dined by said friend this evening (It is just after 8:00

p.,m. PST); it was really neat to buy stuff " hands on, " and not have to buy

one blooming thing on-line, just two items at the drugstore!!!

I'm rockin' and a-rollin tonight!

See you all tomorrow,

Love to all you wonderful people on these lists,

n Rojas--and check out those costs, gang! Whee!
