Guest guest
Possibly, gastro-esophogeal reflux? Typing out loud again--May he only do better, you too! Love, n Rojas Difficulty clearing secretions - need advice - again! Hello again, Shaelin has had a cold for 4 days. During the day, he has a constantly runny nose and over the past 24 hours has developed a cough. For the past 3 nights however, when he is going to sleep, he coughs violently causing him to vomit large amounts of clear mucus, which he fights doing and therefore turns red, keeps coughing, etc. Tonight was the worse. So far I have increased his Pulmozyme from 1 to 2x/day which is what I have been told to do in the past, have cut down on his milk products, have been burning Manuka oil in the house and irrigating his nose frequently with saline. I have also increased his vest time but I think his cough is more related to post nasal drip than an actual infection in his lungs. Has anyone had problems with their child actually choking on their secretions? If I had a suction machine at home I would have used it tonight, (assuming he would let me put anything in his mouth). I am going to call the cf clinic tomorrow but didn't know if this problem was common with cf or not. Will he always be able to clear his secretions and if not, is there any equipment I should have at home for an emergency. At least being 3 he sits himself up in bed and cries for me so I can hear him when he is in distress but it must be terrifying for him. Thanks again, Jeanne ( Mom to Shaelin, almost 3 wcf) ------------------------------------------- The opinions and information exchanged on this list should IN NO WAY be construed as medical advice. Guest guest
My had something similar back in the fall. He was coughing so much, he was gagging and sometimes he vomited. He ended up being admitted with PA. I don't want to scare you, he is doing so much better now. Hasn't coughed like that since. But I would take him in to the clinic just to be sure. Get a sample taken, or a throat swab. It could be a viral thing too. Has he been around anyone lately who has been sick? I wasn't able to get the secretions out of , he would just cough until he puked. Sorry to be blunt. Cheryl Difficulty clearing secretions - need advice - again! Guest guest
a had the same thing about 2 weeks ago. Even non-cf kids will get that post-nasal drip, when they have a head cold, that gets really thick at night and makes them gag. Put a pillow under his head so there is an angle, that helps some. I think you are doing everything right. Good luck, > Hello again, > > Shaelin has had a cold for 4 days. Guest guest
We often have the same proble w/ Ty more so when he is sick when your child is actually coughing try holding her/ him from behind and whe they take in a deep breath to cough hold your arms around their waist tight so that they can't expel their stomach it really forces the mucus out . We do this on normal days just to get the way down deep yucky stuff up aND OUT OF THERE . hOPE THIS HELPS!
