Guest guest
Marcia - I am so sorry that you have to go through all of that and still worry and care for Ben. Please make sure that you take care of you. If the Dr. feels YOU need the surgery ASAP do it. Ben needs you! Heck, maybe Ben's surgery can be moved up. Guest guest
I would appreciate lots and lots of good thoughts from now until next Tuesday. I will be going in for several biopsies on the lymph nodes in my neck. I am now beginning to get a bit anxious. I had thyroid cancer, resulting in a total thyroidectomy in 1992. There was extensive lymphatic involvement. In the years between then and now, I have had radioactive treatments to " treat " and try to ablate the metastatic cancer. This year, when having my blood tests/body scan, my thyrogen markers showed that the disease is spreading. Recently, I had an ultrasound which showed diseased lymph nodes and diseased tissue in the thyroid bed. I also had a CT scan of my lungs, and they are clean. The good news is, the metastatic disease seems to be limited to my neck area (it can spread to bones, lungs, etc.). My doctor is recommending I have a radical neck dissection surgery to remove all of the lymph nodes on the right side and all tissue remaining in the thyroid bed (if the surgeon thinks he can get it), followed up by a radiation treatment. At the very least, I will be having another radiation treatment. If I do have the surgery, I will want to wait until after Ben has his sinus surgery, which is sheduled for April 8th. Please think good thoughts for him that day. I worry because of his extensive history, but we have been assured he should do fine. Guest guest
Marcia, All good thoughts heading your way. I hope everything goes well for you, and goes well for Ben's upcoming surgery. This cancer stuff is scary; I can't begin to imagine what you must be going through waiting for tests and surgery. On our end, yesterday I came home from work and found a notice that a certified letter was waiting for me at the post office. This morning I went to pick it up, all ready knowing what it was and dreading it, but still, I wasn't prepared for how much it upset me. It was a copy of Larry's death certificate. was with me because he was mailing his portfolio to Oregon to apply for grad school. I didn't tell him what letter I was picking up until after I'd already opened it and sealed it into the envelope to send to the life insurance company. On the walk back from his apartment, I was just very bummed out that this happened to Larry, that it was totally preventable if caught in time, and again felt sad and guilty that years ago I didn't nag Larry 24/7 to get him to see a doctor. I know he wouldn't have listened no matter what, and he readily admitted that several times before he died, and he always regretted that his stubborness got in the way of common sense. But life goes on... is making plans to go to grad school, is preparing now to go back to college (she stayed out last semester and this current semester due to her dad's health). She's changing her focus, wants to train to become a medical assistant. Go figure, the kid whom I can't get to swallow a vitamin pill every day. And for those who hadn't heard... I'm moving from Chicago to Phoenix at the end of April. I'm getting married! Kim
Guest guest
You signed your name " No CF " . Does your boyfriend have CF? If so, > how is he doing? > Marcia No he does not. I met him online because we share the same birthday March 10th. I was searching the internet and came across this yahoo group. I joined in Jan 2003 just to read a little about CF. I had heard of it but wasn't really sure what it was. I ended up liking the people here and felt the cause was worth supporting, even if its just through educating myself. I have never met any one with the disease as it's not that common. Well its common enough to have more than one CF patient per hospital but is probably less common than my brother's birth defect of Spina Bifida (1 per 1000 births?). Anyway, this is actually one of my favorite groups on the internet and I have read every post since I joined. I have learned about CF but I have also learned about magnesium and a zillion other things. Besides CF I also read journal updates of ill children through Caringbridge personal websites. These children have cancer, Fanconi's Anemia, Krabbe's disease etc....and many are/will be/have been in hospital and needed bone marrow transplants. So I keep lots of people in my special thoughts everyday. Beth 24, Seattle
