Hey, PHAT Chick!

You're too much! Sorry, I've had to admit defeat with my insurance. (We

self-insure and use BC/BS of Ala. as claims administrator. They require that I

be twice my ideal weight for two years before they authorize! I could fight

them, and probably win, but as an untenured professor I'm not eager to sue my

employer just now.)

Hope we meet some day!

Jon, I understand your circumstance and I agree with your choice, but stuff

like this makes my blood boil. Some idiot some where has made a stupid

arbitrary decision which is based on nothing and it is contrary to logic.

Taking their logic to the 10th degree... do they allow treatment of other

illnesses before the patient gets to a " critical " stage? GRRRRRR

Jon, it will all come in the wash so to speak, you'll get a huge tax break at

the end of the year if you do long-form. I think, any CPA's out there?

Wouldn't these self-pays get to take the majority off their taxes? Just a

thought, hopefully that's a bright spot that you can think of when you hand

over the $. Jillian Bopeep

Sperb,

Believe me, the thought crossed my mind! And I certainly went and pigged

out out of anger when I got the denial.

I've appealed (unsuccessfully) and was also denied by our HR manager. (We

self-insure, using BC/BS of Ala. as claims administrator.) The next step

would be a lawsuit but, as a poor untenured professor who has to devote time

to writing and doesn't want to make an enemy out of his employer, I've

decided to forego that and just pay the damn money. Priorities, you know;

existence precedes essence and all that.

Best,

Jon in Tuscaloosa

Re: More Prayers

Jon have you started your appeal? These people are in obvious need of an

education....

Yep. I'd really like to take them to the cleaners, but alas!

Almost makes me wish that I was in a higher tax bracket!
