Guest guest
Robin, I am an RN to ( Director of Emergency, Hemodialysis and General Pediatrics in a childrens hospital). I had my Surgery on Friday 9/8/00, saw Dr. R on Tuesday for staples to come out, and was back at work on Wednesday. I probably could of went back on Monday but I was from 200 miles away from durham, and needed to stay till tuesday to see him at clinic. Good luck. Guest guest
Lots of people take only one week off from work. I would not have wanted to go back at one week...two would be better. I was very tired in the beginning and had no energy. It took a while for it to come back. But if you're young and strong..go to it! Lots of folks go back after a week. Guest guest
Good question Joni...I want to know to....I am a nurse and I dont have any vacation time yet because I am on a new job. I was hoping to go back in less than a weak if no complications occur. What would be the best schedule (clinc, surgery and staple removal) to spend the least amount of time in N.C.?? I know we should stay close by for at least a few days to make sure there are no complications. Could you see some of us thousands of miles away and going to a surgeon in our home town with a complication and they didn't know what our new insides looked like? Bet they would be pretty surprised and scratching their heads! lol Any ideas what the minimum amount of time we need to stay in Durham just to be safe? Joni, I took two weeks off for the whole thing. But that included travel time by car to Durham and back. I think returning to work a week after surgery is very doable especially if you don't have travel time to figure in. Guest guest
Joni, I had the surgery on Friday , flew home on Wednesday, and went back to work on Monday. I work 10 hour shifts with a lot of up and down. I was sure tired that first week but not hurting. Guest guest
Joni: You are supposed to stay at least 5-7 days after surgery. I am having surgery on November 8th (arriving in Durham on Nov. 6th) and leaving on the 13th. Hope this helps. Guest guest
- I am so glad you are doing so well. I am in your same position. WHEN to go back to work. I say you are still too soon. I had my whipple surgery done not quite two months ago and am still thinking I need another couple of weeks. I had a set-back with a 24 day hospital stay, fistula and now have anemia - getting procrit shots once a week. DON'T overdue. I have read numerous posts on here regarding setbacks/readmissions. It is not worth it. You might see if you can start part-time and see how that goes. Good luck. Cecilia Mesa, AZ
