Guest guest
Cyndi, Hi, just wanted to add my experience with ERCP's and MRCP's. Of course the MRCP is just a series of x-rays of the ducts and internal organs. The actual test maybe lasted for about 20-30 minutes for me and I wasn't given any IV contract or anything else. Therefor I was able to walk out of there, just the same as I walked in. Of course, all 3 of my MRCP's showed a bile duct stone in the bile duct that didn't pass after 3 months and therefor I had another ERCP to remove the stone. But when I went in for the ERCP, there was no stone to be found!! Go figure?! That has happened twice to me so far. The doctors say that the films cannot tell the difference between an " air bubble " or " stone " . So they figured that air was refluxing into the bile duct. Good guess (I guess??) Anyway, the MRCP is probably just being ordered for you to monitor your situation (like someone else on here said). It is non-invasive and there are little to no side effects from it. The ERCP's (as I'm sure you are well aware of)pack a wollop of nasty after effects (at least for me). Oh, and someone else here just said that they had an ERCP (for just a look-see), and they had no pain after. I did have ONE experience like that too. Too bad, all the other ERCP's produced lots of pain afterwards for me (whether I had any cutting or not). Hope this helps. Take care Kris in TN
