Guest guest
Vondie! 180??????? Give me a break-----yeah, it is better than 500........! Love, n diabetes - again Ok I got her on the phone and asked her some of the questions. Here are the answers I got. The doc told her: 45 g carbs per meal / 8 units of humalog (sp?) 2-3 units per snack Bedtime (around 7p.m.) 40 units lantus Ok, heres what she ate today. Last night (we start here because she worked over night) 8:00 p.m. she took 40 units of lantus. She went to work at 10 - her blood sugar monitor read " hi " She ate a small salad and took 4 units 9 a.m. she had biscuits & gravy - took 8 units humalog and her blood sugar was 501 1-2 p.m. ate bowl of cereal - took 4 units of humalog 4:30 - 5:00 p.m. she ate pizza - took 6 units of humalog - blood sugar read 430 Says she is drinking lots of water. 6-8 glasses thus far. She uses a One Touch Ultra The doc said the goal is to get it down to 180. Anyway, thats what I got from her. So, I am sure that she is not testing enough. And she is not recording what she is eating. Help!! This is getting very frustrating. Vondie
Guest guest
n, Is this not a good number? What is normal? I really know nothing about all of this, which is probably apparent. Or it could be that my mom knows nothing about it also. I think that she might be in denial about the whole thing. Guest guest
Vondie, it is just that I would hope that they could get her at least down to about 145, but then I am a perfectionist, and she doubtless is in total denial. Good luck with all this, n diabetes - again Ok I got her on the phone and asked her some of the questions. Here are the answers I got. Guest guest
Vondie, Has a doctor actually sat down with your daughter and trained her about counting carbs, insulin dosing? From her numbers it seems they gave her a plan, but are they adjusting it to the fact she is still sky high? Does she also have to use a sliding scale depending on where her glucose is before the eats. I do insulin with each meal, after I plan what I am eating ( counting the carbs) and then use a sliding scale to fine the base units I need. When I first learned this system, I needed a notebook to do the calculations. I had a book with the number of carbs in foods, then a calculator ( so I would not error) and all the carb = insulin units written out. I no longer need any of that, as it is in my head. Also I tend to eat the same every day, so my doses are pretty stable. Joanne Schum > Ok > I got her on the phone and asked her some of the questions. Guest guest
Her mom does not have CFRD, it's the adult onset diabetes. That's why exersice and carb reduction is so important. Unlike CF people, she is prone to heart disease. I agree with all you said about CFRD and high fat and calorie diet. Those are the rules that I follow. Her mom is not this case however.
