Guest guest
Susie, My GI told me that it is still possible to have sludge in the ducts once the gallbladder has been removed. That was one of his possible suggestions as to why I still experienced panc attacks after surgery, although it wasn't my gb that was the problem, but it got removed anyway due to the surgery I was having. Guest guest
thank you so much w. im so worried. we are leaving for disney with the kids next saturday and im so afraid of having attacks while we are away. i dont have to tell you how bad the pain is and it seems to happen more often when i am stressed. Its good to know that i am not alone. I have felt for the past year that i am in this alone and no one seems to understand. Everyone in my family seems to also believe that its my nerves and that is very dissappointing to me to feel that i dont really have anyones support. I thank the lord that i have found this group thanks to a wonderful woman that lives in New Mexico that you all know and love also!!! What causes this problem??? Did i have my gallbladder removed unnecessarily???????? What can they do to treat this problem????? thank you again, susie - south jersey
Guest guest
thank you Pam. Its so hard to find a good doctor around here. My GI doctor is very kind but he did tell me that all my problems would go away after i had my gallbladder removed and they didnt. i did have sludge so i guess it was diseased but it seemed like after they removed it, the attacks got worse and became more frequent. im hoping after the holidays when he starts doing all the tests that he will have some better insight on whats going on and how to get it under control. your friend in south jersey, susie

Guest guest
Dear : Thank you so much for setting me straight. I do not drink, im funny enough without the alcohol!!! (LOL) or so i am told!!!! If you knew me you would be suprised that i would be worried about my health at all!! im always doing fun things with my family, i love my family so much. i love my children and their friend and i look forward to the times when my husband and I are just enjoying eachothers company. I have been doing my best not to even tell them when im having an attack, eventhough my daughter is very open to that sort of thing, she knows me so well and she is so helpful when im not feeling very well. im just not used to this being sick and i dont like it!!! i hate it that the doctors make me feel like im faking or that its my nerves, i definately dont need to waste time at the hospital it i dont have to, there are lots of other things id rather be doing, like playing Dance dance revolution with my 13 year old daughter!!! im only 41, im too young to feel old. I just want to know as much as i can about this illness so i can start living again. its already taken a year from my life and i dont want that to continue. Now that you've put my mind at ease i know i will take it easy but i can still go on the roller coaster, i just may have to take a break in between!!! again, thank you. susie - south jersey
Guest guest
Susi, It is rare for an attack to be fatal, however it can happen. The reason it can be dangerous is that when one has a pancreatitis attack, toxins can leak into the bloodstream and cause major organs to shut down. I believe from what Heidi mentioned (I think it was her), that is more common in one who drinks alcohol a lot or constantly and doesn't stop drinking because of the attacks, but we all know this is not to rule, it is just a more likely scenario. I myself wondered how a doctor could tell me to try and outlast the attacks at home using pain meds through a pain management doctor rather than spending all my time in hospital, but my attacks were always so severe that I was unable to stay at home. There are a number of people on this site who have suffered with pancreatitis for most of their life with no fatal danger to their lives, so I wouldn't be worrying yourself unneccessarily about this. If you have a good doctor, ask them to write you a letter regarding your pancreatitis attacks that you may show to an ER doctor on the off chance that you might need to go to a different hospital at any time. This can help immensely with those who go strictly by the book and don't believe about our panc attacks when symptoms differ from the norm as do the reasons for having it. And I know it's easier said than done, as I've been there, done that and still doing it, but try your hardest to let go of thinking about the possibility in having an attack, and enjoy yourself and your family at Disneyland. Don't over do things, even if it means you have to sit down for a few minutes whilst your husband takes your son on some rides and then you can catch up with them later. As well as staying hydrated and eating sensibly as to how it works for you best. For 2 years I was scared to go anywhere, and my outings were restricted to just going the 15 minutes into town and then it was rare for me to go on my own or just with my little girl.
