Guest guest
Hello Percy, I hope you are feeling better than you were and I'm sorry you've been having such a hard time. I think the antioxidant treatmnt you are talking about is the one developed a few years ago at the Manchester Royal Infirmary (MRI) here in the UK. I am a patient at Liverpool (less than an hour's drive from Manchester, as it happens) but the antioxidant treatment, known as Antox, is not used by the Liverpool pancreatic team. Heidi posts from time to time about this treatment which she uses to good effect. Her last post on this was, I think, post number 55273. If you buy the actual Antox it is expensive. You can buy it on the net. However, Heidi buys the elements separately. Her post will explain the exact ingredients. If you want a fuller explanation of the original research, you can find it on the MRI website, which, needless to say, I haven't just got to hand!! I could get it for you if interested. Mark recently posted a message about another study on the same treatment. If you type in " antioxidants " under Search, at the top of this page, you'll find his article and Heidi's post also. I believe that further clinical trials of the treatment are currently being undertaken in a number of hospitals in the UK, but not in Liverpool. The original research study in Manchester was rather small. Docs' opinions on it vary but I would have thought it worth a try. I can't afford to buy Antox without a prescription and I'm not sure if it's on GPs' list of prescribable items. (It might be too new and not yet " proven " .) Even it is allowed, since my specialist does not use it, he obviously wouldn't ask my GP to prescribe it for me! In any case, I don't think it was for end-stage CP, which I have, but perhaps more for those having several bad acute attacks when the disease is at an earlier stage. You'd need to check that though. Heidi does seem to find it helpful. I just buy a good antioxidant product at the pharmacy but it isn't the exact same mix as Antox. Hope that might be of some use! Do take care.
