Guest guest
Jenn Actually, it was testing that tipped me off about our copper needs. I chose to ignore that since it seemed very suspect, added in more zinc, and my son had a nosebleed that sent us to the ER. So much for mother's intuition. :-) However, I *do know a lot of children are high copper (based on testing, mother's intuition, what have you). This would likely be especially true for those children who eat a lot of nuts on SCD, as nuts are a good dietary source. I really don't think that recommending copper as a generally helpful supplement on autism message boards is wise. I suspect that it's those of us who *have had to supplement copper that are most likely to be careful about how we recommend its use to others, since we have had to be very careful using it ourselves - thus the responses you had to your comments. Copper can become toxic at very low levels, compared to other essential minerals. Since copper toxicity symptoms are almost indistinguishable from mercury toxicity symptoms, not everyone would be able to sort out which is which. best wishes Rene >I really distrust testing. Guest guest
I do try to post everytime that everyone is different and has different needs. The copper supplementation has helped us though. I know about the nuts having high copper. My child doesn't eat them anymore and I hope we can venture off into more of a variety of foods soon. She didn't eat too many when she did eat them. I find this info. valuablethough. Thank you for posting it.
