Guest guest
Hi Mike, and Hi Heidi, Heidi your posting was well done and a little thought provoking for me. I think it's true that we seem to respond differently to different pain meds. And likely that's true for other chronic pain problems other than Panc. My thought is that over time, I wonder if we change and thus our response to a particular pain med changes? I have been satisified with Hydrocodn for about five years and while it seems to still work well for the pain, I seem to be having or developing a side effect, namely insomnia. It used to be that Hydrocodn would affect me and make me sleepy, now it does for about an hour then I become fully awake for several hours, just can't sleep at all. I'm going to discuss this with my GI Doc. at my next appointment. Anyway, it's just a thought and I wanted to throw it on the table. Best wishes, Poncho - GA
Guest guest
Not offended here. I agree with you mostly in fact. I guess what I wrote wasn't very clear. I'm afraid that down the road if things get worse OR I get something else like cancer(knock on wood) that the pain meds will not be very effective as they are now and that I will be taking a huge dose. Now I also change what I take a couple times a year, up sometimes, down sometimes, depends on the pain. When I was first sick, one percect(sp?) would do the job fine, but after several attacks, that dose won't work anymore. Has my pain gotten worse since the first attack? Nope, but my pain tolerance has grown alot. I think there is a middle ground to this, but over time with the same pain(at least for me and my CP) and more hospital visits my pain meds have grown just like I would bet most people on this forum. I've had this same talk with Dr. Wheeler who is a pain specialist and what I understand over time with chronic pain dosages will go up or the doctors would never let us have more of the drug. IOne other thing I got from him is this field of study is pretty new and uncharted, but the old days of not giving enough meds I hope is long gone. Just my opinion from me and ED.
