Guest guest
Um, could you pretty please send those fairies my way? Especially the one that will wave her wand and debt magically disappear? Although that other fairy would work just as well for me. I'm sorry you're going through this with your pediatrician. I would find another pediatrician unless you are attached to this one...and it doesn't sound like you are. My daughter started at a general practice and the doctor treated us with disdain and dismissed all of my concerns, so I just randomly walked into a pediatric clinic and said I don't care who I see so long as it's a pediatrician. My daughter is in a practice with 6 doctors now and I never doubt that our regular doctor knows exactly who my daughter is and what's she's dealt with. Although we do get a little mixed up on all the colds and infections she's had because they have been back to back for about 10 weeks now...but as for tort and plagio and reflux he has been on top of that since the start. He even called on his weekend off because he had figured out a way for my daughter to get physical therapy even though insurance had denied coverage for it. I think you definitely need a new doctor. > > I came back from my son's last pediatrician visit steaming mad! > > He thinks that us having paid $2000+ out of pocket for the doc band was a rip off. He cites " studies that show " these helmets may not help. He says our son's head looks great. I wanted to hit HIM over the head. Does he really believe that my son's head looks great today because we did nothing and it MAGICALLY GOT BETTER ON ITS OWN??? > > Well excuse me, Dr Pediatrician sir, I am the mom and I see my son EVERYDAY and when I say that the band was responsible for his improved head shape I think I know what I am talking about better than you, who hasn't seen my son in 2 months and doesn't even remember anything about him even with the chart in front of you! > > This is the guy that we had to practically shake down for a PT referral for our son's tort. Finally dragged it out of him when we noticed B was showing scoliosis possibly related to the tort. This guy constantly dismissed our assertions that repositioning was not helping B's plagiocephaly. Had to move heaven and earth to make him write that script for the helmet. > > Pediatrician doesn't even comment on the vast improvement of his tort and how my son doesn't curve his body to the left constantly anymore. Perhaps he didn't notice? > > Well GREAT. Let's see, MAYBE this has something to do with the weekly physical therapy with a wonderful lady who shows us exercises to strengthen his neck and back. Or the hours of developmental exercises we've done with him at home. > > OR maybe the magical " IT WILL GO AWAY ON ITS OWN " fairy waved her wand and it all went away in a shower of sparkles and stars that we must have missed because we were so darn busy ACTUALLY DOING SOMETHING ABOUT IT. > > It just makes me so mad, his " I TOLD YOU SO " attitude that just dismisses everything we have done, the sacrifice of time and money we have made to get his helmet, to get his PT, all of it. I suppose to him, it was all a waste of time because the " IT WILL GO AWAY ON ITS OWN " fairy took care of it in the end, didn't she???? > > Of course she did. > > Perhaps he knows another fairy that pay off my mortgage magically too. >
Guest guest
Get a new pediatrician. I am having similar issues with how my son's plagio case was handled and I am making it damn well known that magic fairies had nothing to do with his improvement. Guest guest
I'm not trying to make light of the situation, but I really do think you need to start a blog. I enjoyed reading this post immensely! I would have asked him to print out the research articles for you so you could read and discuss. I doubt he has any on hand or even knows the name of a researcher that did a study. Ya know what, there are jerks and liars everywhere. Some of them even make it out of medical school. He has no real knowledge of anything, but to keep his " big important doctor " complex he tries to legitimize his comments by touting generic " research shows " phrases. It makes him sound smart, right? ;-) I've been there and done that with doctors. Some of them aren't worth the ink in their diploma. Oh and I'm no doctor hater. I have two doctors in my immediate family...great doctors who tell the truth and can back up their opinions with real facts.
Guest guest
THis makes me even more thankful for my pedi. At our 2 month visit she recognized the plagio and immediatedly told us we needed help. Even though the plagio was not too severe, she knew he would need help, when other people didn't even think there was a problem, she saw it. She said to try re-positioning but that usually it can not fully correct the problem. She stated the problems we could have down the road and said he will probably need a band. I am SO grateful for her wisdom and insight. I think you need a new pediatrician... one who doesn't believe in fairies. :-) > > I'm not trying to make light of the situation, but I really do think you need to start a blog. Guest guest
I agree as well. My Pediatrian..same thing. I thought it was a little weird that Camille tilted her head, but I was not concerned really until I went for a well visit and my Pediatrician said this is not something that can wait and you need to to go to Children's now. There are good Pediatricians out there....we are thankful to have one. Do not be discouraged, just be dilligent Re: venting!!! how the pediatrician believes in magical fairies. Guest guest
Thanks, I enjoyed venting ! ;-D I'm not mad anymore. I just laugh at his ignorance. I just feel bad for any kids the pediatrician may be taking care of. If he dissuades the parents just like he tried to do with us about the tort and the plagio, would those kids just be left alone to " get better " ? This is why I bring my baby around with his banded head with pride. I don't see the band as something to feel bad for him about. If other parents see him in it and it makes them come and ask questions, so much the better! I would freely share our story, not just about banding, but about the great need to have therapy for the tort, to counteract all this hogwash about it all getting better on its own.
