Guest guest
All I can input in this one is that apple cider is legal. It will probably become more difficult to find with winter half way through. I can still get it in my local grocery though. It freezes well, so I'd find some, stock up in the freezer, and just pull it out as needed. There is no legal apple juice unless you make it yourself. If you have a juicer, that's an option. Meleah SCD & LOD Hello friends - Luke's oxalic acid is sky high according to the OAT and we are considering trying to fold in low oxalate requirements into his SCD. It is truly a bummer b/c w/the addition of phenol assist we'd seen 2 weeks of near perfect stools coming out daily, or every other day; far and away the most normal functioning of his gut since he stopped breastfeeding. Has anyone got any advice on reducing oxalates while staying SCD? We had just introduced almond flour, which of course, is very high in oxalates. Also, Luke is nowhere close to being pill compliant and we are forcing 3923929 supplements into his grape juice, which is also high in oxalates. Apple juice, I'm told, is at least lower in oxalates than grape, does anyone know of any SCD compliant apple juices? We are at wits end. Someone please tell me this combination can be successfully achieved. brian __________________________________________________________ It's here! Your new message! Excellent research has been done in the interim about " combining " SCD with LOD or introducing some LOD protocols that would not conflict with SCD. ( Unfortunately the use of the VSL #3 is one we don't support.) Tamaro is an SCD mom who was also challenged by the oxalate issues. She studied reports of parents who were challenged by trying to reconcile oxalates and adherence to SCD. In her scrupulous developed a promising theory about the use of Vitamin K being effective to apply to the oxalate challenge. Her research was applied to address oxalates without compromising SCD, She reports some promising success. has started a list dedicated to the Vitamin K supplementation. If you're concerned about the oxalate issues, I urge you to read Tamaro's research paper on Vitamin K... http://gutresearch.com/v1.html Carol F. Guest guest
I would strongly urge you to take a look at Tamaro's research on oxalates, too. has said that LOD triggers the kids' livers to start producing more oxalates, to bind up the unmanaged calcium. She feels that unless.... and until.... they get their A, D and K levels up, the production of oxalates by their own bodies will not slow down. That's really all I know..... but I would suggest you go read 's paper (Carol posted the link), and to join the K list and read the files and posts over there. You can ask further questions about LOD and have answer directly.... plus ask what other parents there have experienced when incorporating the Vitamin K protocol. http://groups.yahoo.com/group/VitaminK/ Patti SCD & LOD Hello friends - Luke's oxalic acid is sky high according to the OAT and we are considering trying to fold in low oxalate requirements into his SCD. What I can offer is advice regarding the apple juice. Have you considered getting a juicer and juicing your own juices for your son? I recently bought a Breville (JE90 I believe is the model number) and it is wonderful! It costs around $150 but is a worthy investment. Search around on the internet and I am sure there are some deals to be had. You can then make your own fresh juiced apple juice and let me tell you....no commercial product that i have tasted comes near and the best part is that you know exactly what is in your child's juice. I buy organic apples and pears. I have also made carrot apple, carrot pear, spinach apple/pear, etc It is a good way to get some veggies into those kiddos who don't like to eat them (my son for one). I sound like an advertisement for Breville but I assure you, I have no connection to them. I hope this helps and good luck! Kathi

Elaine prohibited all but homemade apple juice or freshly press unsweetened apple cider which you may buy from a store or a farmer's market. Carol F. Guest guest
Only apple cider is legal, or homemade apple juice...apples put through a juicer. Guest guest
<<What's LOD?>> It is the acronym for the Low Oxalate Diet..... which actually has zero to do with SCD and, in my opinion, is extremely unhealthy for our kids. For those who have oxalate issues, from what I have learned, it would be better to pursue more information regarding the Vitamin K protocol and research done by Tamaro. E-mail me privately if you want the links to her paper and her Yahoo group related to that subject. Patti
Guest guest
> > What's LOD? > > Sue LOD is the Low Oxalate Diet. It's premise and protocols are discussed on another list but it employs further food restrictions and suggests a supplement that is not legal for SCD. One of our very experienced parents, also a skilled researcher has developed her own theory on a solution to the oxalate issue and it is proving effective using a particular form of Vitamin K..
