Guest guest
I am no expert on chelation.... but it's been pretty commonly reported around here that yeast flares up with chelation treatment. Can you do the carrot juice and garlic? Do you use coconut oil? Candex enzymes? Patti 6mth. flare I was talking to our DAN dietician about several different things concerning iel's treatments. One was the stool issue. I think I posted a few weeks back how his stools were very odd...several small marbles instead of one formed BM, not hard, just strange formation. Well, they've turned to one mass of peanutbutter consistency in the past week. My concern was that it is due to yeast coming back. We are chelating with DMPS...have been for about 3mths. I've also noticed other behaviors that had dimished creeping up again. He used to have severe echolalia, but it really cut back in mid to late summer after a couple of months of SCD, MB12 injections, and then DMPS. Well, it's back again. He hasn't lost the communication that he gained. He is still answering questions, expressing desires, ect. He just is back to repeating everything anyone else says as well. He's also been singing and humming all the time again. He used to do this constantly before he could speak, but it cut back a bit once he began to gain some communication skills. He has always been drawn to music, loves to sing, play the piano, ect. But the humming thing again makes me think that he's kind of off in his own little world or something. He doesn't seem super spacey. Also, his potty training is in definite regression. He will still pee on the toilet, but will not have a BM on the toilet. This started slowly about a month ago, and gradually moved from occassionally to all of the time. He immediately comes to tell me to change his poopoo after he goes. Anyway, so in talking with Vikki about all of this stuff, she asked me to remind her how long he's been SCD. When I said that I first started noticing slow changes he was 6mths SCD, and she thinks that it is the common 6 mth. flare. She said if it continues for another couple of weeks, to call them back, and do some natural antifungals in the meantime. So after my description of the various problems...returned humming, toilet training regression, mushy stools...what do you guys think? 6mth. flare? Try the intro diet for a couple of days? I'm trying to figure out what is going on. I do not want to have to do an RX antifungal. Help. Meleah SCD 05/06 iel 3.5yrs. Guest guest
Hi Meleah, I think that this might be a 6 month flare or a delayed negative reaction to peanut butter. I do think that you should return to the intro diet and donate the peanut butter. Sometimes a negative reaction to pb might take a long time to show up; maybe even months. Guest guest
Mim, I have to laugh because we gave up peanutubtter two months into SCD because of sleep issues that it was causing. The BMs are what are like peanutbutter, and I wish I could give them away. I hope that it is a six month flare, and we can get him back to normal. I will go back to intro for a couple of days, and let you know the results. He really doesn't eat too much beyond the intro. I didn't think to post his foods, but here they are. cow yogurt(for 5mths. now) cheese(usually cheddar) eggs beef chicken carrots acorn squash green beans zucchini brocolli(on occassion) spinach(very rarely) ripe banana applesauce Marilyn's cranberry sauce recipe from pecan bread made with blueberries, cranberries, raspberries(only a couple of times) legal OJ legal white grape juice nut muffin(occassionally) That pretty much covers it. He has had things with cooked tomato, peaches, or a couple of other fruits or veggies that I've forgotten every so often. Everything is always pealed, seeded, and cooked. I haven't been brave enough to try raw yet. Oh, he has had lentels on occassion since Oct. But, no new foods have been added in quite a while, so I don't think it is one particular problem food. I'll keep you posted. Meleah Re: 6mth. flare Hi Meleah, I think that this might be a 6 month flare or a delayed negative reaction to peanut butter. Guest guest
Haven't done any of it yet. I have a bottle of GSE in the cabinet, but haven't tried it. I also borrowed my brother's juicer...which they never use...to try the carrot/garlic thing. Once again, just haven't done it. Interested in the Candex, but haven't tried it either. Honestly, it's because I'm so overwhelmed with keeping everything straight with when to give what supps. I also know that I'm not supposed to give an antifunal within a certain amount of time near his probiotics. My brain is just getting overloaded with keeping everything straight. I guess I should try something, huh. Meleah 6mth. flare I was talking to our DAN dietician about several different things concerning iel's treatments. One was the stool issue. Guest guest
Hi Meleah, I think that you are doing a super job! It might very well be the 6 month flare. Two things to watch: carrots and lentils. Some kids cannot tolerate the carrots. Lentils, even once a week can hurt. You might also take out any nut products until he gets better. I wish you the best of luck!! Mimi > Haven't done any of it yet. I have a bottle of GSE in the cabinet, but > haven't tried it. Guest guest
Thanks, Mimi. I will pull out nut products for a while...he doesn't really care one way or the other if he has them. I will also pull the lentels even though we only have those a couple of times a month. I'll substitute the acorn squash for the carrots, and see if that makes a difference, too.
