Guest guest
My best instinct is that the infractions are your biggest obstacle at this point. I know it's hard to avoid them completely.... but you really must, or you'll never know how far he could come with healing. If he was tolerating the nut butters before, you can go ahead and use them..... I think you can introduce small amounts in the first week after intro, and just see how he does. But, if he does not make good progress, even with 100% strict compliance, we'd advise you to pull peanut butter first (if you're using it). Some kids don't do well with almond butter.... so pecan butter (you have to make it) is probably the best choice.... then hazelnut and/or macadamia butter. Cashew butter is really too starchy and should be considered advanced.... and even then, used sparingly. So, use your own best judgement on the nut butters. If you had been really strict... no infractions all this time... and he was still having problems, I'd tell you to NOT introduce the nut products. But, I honestly would like to see how different things can be with zero illegals first, rather than to eliminate a nutritious and convenient food that he probably enjoys. Just don't overdo it on the amounts. Wait a couple of weeks on nut flour.... then introduce a very small amount, watch and wait 24 hrs. If his stools go instantly mushy or something, you'll know it's too soon. Patti Patti-your opinion Hi Patti, I re did the intro diet Sat/Sun. I was wondering when you would add in nut butter/nut flour items or wait for a few months. We originally did the intro diet at the end of Sept. This was re done for all the infractions the past week. Guest guest
Thanks Patti. I am not going to use peanut butter for awhile. I thought I would be safe and just made cashew butter brownies (he had one). He has a big party at the school so I figured instead of risking infraction to give him his own food rather than wait a few weeks to introduce the nut butter. I am only going to use nut butter for now (no flour) and sparingly (special occasions so he has no temptation). But I will make almond butter or pecan butter ones for tomorrow. I did make some goat yoghurt, do you think I should wait on this too? Also, have you made the pizza crust with nut butter instead of nut flour? I am trying to give him the same foods at the Christmas parties but SCD legal hoping that it will break the habit of infractions. Although I'm sure that will happen sometimes. Also, today he ate a crayon (never done this before). This was prior to the nut butter brownie. Guest guest
On the goat yogurt.... this is up to you. If you feel he would be likely to tolerate it, you can certainly try. The BEST way, though, is to be sure there are ZERO other changes.... no new foods, no other variables.... and then start with a quarter of a teaspoon, then wait and watch. We *usually* recommend waiting until a couple of months into SCD.... but by that I mean waiting until the kid is pretty well established and stable on the diet..... THEN introducing a small bit of yogurt. You've had a pretty up-and-down time.... and it has not been quite three months, but with infractions. I almost think that if I were you, I would just wait until after the first of the year. But, then again, you already have it made.... and it won't keep. So... up to you.... but take it slow and easy. Good plan on the muffins.... using almond or pecan butter would be better. I honestly have not ever made the pizza crust with nut butter.... so sorry I am not of much help there. I also don't know whether crayons are SCD legal or not! Patti RE: Patti-your opinion Thanks Patti. I am not going to use peanut butter for awhile.
