Guest guest
Hello, I'm so happy to have found this group! My name is Annika and I have a six-year-old boy, who has autism and epilepsy. He has eaten GFCFSF since april and now - right after Christmas - he is going to start SCD. I have read " the book " and looked at recommendations at www.pecanbread.com. I still wonder a little about how to begin and how long time I shall wait before I introduce different things. Do you have som advice for me? Guest guest
Welcome to the group Annika, << I still wonder a little about how to begin and how > long time I shall wait before I introduce different things. Do you > have som advice for me? >> The best thing to do is to get started with the introductory diet (the intro) and gradually add in foods after that. There are two versions of the intro die: the original and the dairy free version. You can find the original version at http://www.breakingtheviciouscycle.info/beginners_guide/beginners.htm (Click on " The Intro diet " ) or page 69 of the book " Breaking the Vicious Cycle " (BTVC) 10th edition. The dairy free version is at http://pecanbread.com/foodprep.html#intro It has lot of great ideas for kids. You should do the intro diet for 2-5 days; 4-5 days for diarrhea and 2- 3 for everything else. After the intro diet you can start to add foods that slightle harder to digest than the intro but not too advanced. You should start with peeled and cooked vegetables and fruits adding only one new food at a time. If you know it is tolerated well (doesn't make symptoms worse or reappear) continue with it and add another food. Some good foods to try after the intro in general are peeled cooked squash, peeled cooked zucchini, cooked green beans; and ripe banana (yellow with spots), homemade applesauce, homemade pearsauce. Until symptoms start to clear up try to avoid too many fats. Fats are more difficult to digest for an injured gut. (That is why the intro diet is virtually fat free) You may also find the following chart helpful: http://pecanbread.com/foodprep.html#beyond Sheila, SCD Feb. 2001, UC 23 yrs mom of and
