Guest guest
This is funny coming home to read your post. I nearly left, but not here! The school where I work starts at 8:00. This morning, by 8:10, I'd kicked one mouthy, pouty, disrespectful, biligerent 14-year old " Princess " down to the asst. principal's office (she wanted to go because she felt I was wrong to stop her from storming around the room, threatening to kill the boy who'd pissed her off. By 8:15, the boy who'd pissed her off only two sentences in his morning journal. Amazing that the only words he spelled correctly were the vulgar ones; he tore out the page and passed it around for his group mates to read. I confiscated it, laying it on my desk. By then I was ready to walk out saying, " Screw this crap. " But I stuck it out... By 9:00, the Princess was back, escorted by the AP. She sat down, he said something to her, she smarted off, so he politely invited her to get up and follow him back to his office (I love this guy and which I had his patience). Really though, she's an honor roll student, so just how stupid is she that she smarts off to teachers and administrators?!! Oh, that's right... mommy and daddy run to the principal every time Princess whines an injustice. At 9:45 she was back, properly subdued. I figure he must have had the nurse give her a shot of whatever they stun mental in-patients with to put them into comas... At 9:50, the boy who'd pissed her off was still refusing to do his English work. The aide and I kept prompting him to get started. Finally, he stormed out of the room, grabbing his hat off my desk saying, " It's my f------ hat, and I want my f---- hat back. " The aide, a down-to-earth dad that looks like a ballpark bouncer, followed him out and escorted him to the AP's office where he stayed until the dismissal bell rang at 1:30. By 10:30, during math, drums started pounding at the base of my skull. I gulped two ibuprofen. At 11:00, we took the kids outdoors to recess to burn off steam for 15 minutes. I prayed for lightening strikes. (Yeah, so I have an evil streak.) At 11:15, the aide escorted them to lunch and I escaped to the teachers' lounge for my 20-minute lunch break. I downed my cold salmon patty and carrot sticks with bottled water and a magnesium glycinate. The gym teacher commiserated with me, but reminded me soon I'll be in Arizona... At 11:35 I picked the kids up from the lunchroom and took them for a washroom break. At 11:40, a 7th grader stormed out of the washroom into the hallway yelling obscenities into the hand of the Princess, who just tossed her head and walked off. I broke up the fight, glared at back of the departing damn Princess, and went into the washroom to find out what went on. The offended 7th grader (a girl who has only been at the school one week) had been defending another girl (who has brain damage from car accident; the girl with brain damage had " looked too long " at the Princess, and when the Princess smarted off, the new girl took offense. I suggested to the new girl that since she was the one caught yelling obscenities at the Princess, that next time she might choose her words more carefully so she won't get in trouble. Then of course, because I have an evil streak and the Princess had pushed all my last buttons, and because these 7th graders are my absolute coolest faves (I was supposed to be their teacher this year until the principal backed down and hired the former AP's son as their teacher instead of me though I had seniority), I told the girl next time, just whisper her anger to the Princess because she deserves it since she's the most bratty, spoiled girl I've ever met. The girl with brain damaged knocked me into the paper towel holder while trying to hug me... At 11:50, back in class, I broke up the Princess's little group in the coat closet where she was holding court telling of her indignation (her side of the story). I handed out the science quiz, despite the protest of the Princess's best friend that I shouldn't give the quiz because I didn't remind them on Friday to study for it (uh, sorry, they were told Thursday and it's not my job to think for them). At 1:45, I stopped at the store on the way home and bought two pints of Dreamery Turtle Sundae ice cream. I came home and ate one of them to de-stress. For supper, I'm finishing off a bottle of merlot. Maybe I'll have a salad with it. Maybe I'll have the other pint of ice cream. Eighth grade girls are hormone-laced demons. I don't have a problem with the boys in this class; they think I'm cool; they want my phone number. I'm not stupid... I'm moving to Arizona.
