Guest guest
Sheila, Thank you so much for all of your help/information. My boys are two years old and have been on the diet for 7 months. Right now they are doing okay with cooked hamburger meat, cooked chicken, acorn squash, butternut squash, zuchinni, pureed green beans, avocado, pears, apples, eggs, jello, and goat yogurt. Every thing is peeled, deseeded, and cooked well. So, we are in the very beginning stages of the diet. This is the farthest we have gotten without having to pull stuff and go back to intro. Recently, I had to pull bananas and honey and almond flour baked goods and go back to the starter diet. We have not reintroduced bananas or honey or the flour and they have done very well. It had gotten to the point where refused all foods except bananas and muffins and fruit sweetened with honey. He was very much in his own world and had strange sensory issues. These are starting to clear up and he is much, much more alert. But occassionally the wierd sensory issues such as fear of climbing up steps or being put on a carousal horse will return briefly and I feel it is yeast or bacteria related. I plan to try candex in a few weeks for the whole family. Then much later we might try the S. Boulardii. Thanks for the warning about yeast allergy possible problems. I did not realize S. Boulardii was some form of yeast. Thanks again, Dana Sheila Trenholm wrote: Hi Dana, << I am very interested in this also because my two boys are not responding as well as I would like to the diet. Is S Boulardii safe to use if you do not know for sure? >> I have been tested many times for Clostridia and it continues to come back negative . I had multiple doses of antibiotics and flare-ups this year. I discussed Saccharomyces boulardii with my GI after a check up following a week long hospital stay. He said that some testing indicated that taking S. boulardii *may* be helpful in Clostridia overgrowth. My GI is extremely conservative in what he will give any credence to (he's still not big on diet) After doing some investigating on my own it seems that S. boulardii may be helpul in preventing antibiotic induced diarrhea/colitis. There is a lot of info on the net about S. boulardii. Here are some: http://www.pubmedcentral.nih.gov/articlerender.fcgi? artid=105172 & tools=bot http://www.allergyresearchgroup.com/proddesc/discuss/SBoulardiiPDFProduc tSheet050905.pdf http://www.aidsinfonyc.org/pwahg/info/sacc.html http://www.thebody.com/pwa/sacc.html I have had persistent yeast overgrowth over the past couple of years and the S.boulardii *seems* to be helping with it. I finally started to have solid stool and was able to tolerate yogurt again (S.boulardii is supposed to help good bacteria create a better micro-organism balance in the body). If you decide to try it start with a small amount in case there is a yeast reaction/allergy. (Don't take it if you have a true known yeast allergy). It will also likely cause die off so gradually increase it and use the usual die off fighters (epsom salt baths and/or activated charcoal) accordingly.
