This is very common.... kids often don't feel well in the very beginning due to

die-off of gut pathogens. Lots of sleeping is very typical..... she's needing

the rest. This de-toxing is hard work.

Baths with epsom salts should help. She was probably really, really addicted to

the illegals in that formula..... or rather, the gut bugs were addicted to it!

It's good to hear that she ate some chicken, carrots and broth. Bravo!

I'm confused about this, though....

<<She vomits all dairy, including goat's milk. >>

Goat MILK is not allowed on SCD..... it would have to be made into SCD 24-hour

yogurt first.

If she accepted some of the chicken broth, you might try giving her a drink that

is half broth, half diluted juice. Maybe in a different type of cup than what

she was used to taking her formula in?? Sometimes just the same cup can provoke

the expectation of the same favorite drink.

Nut milks should not be started just yet..... but you *could * try homemade

coconut milk, made according to the directions on www.pecanbread.com . I would

start with small amounts of that, though, too..... and probably dilute it. It

won't taste like milk or formula, though.

If she continues to feel really crummy.... it will be essential to keep her

hydrated. The electrolyte drink recipe is a good thing to try....

1 quart boiled water

2 tbsp. honey

1/4 tsp. of salt

1/4 tsp.baking soda

Can be kept in refrigerator for 24 hours, and then a new batch should be made.

Remember..... two days of intro diet are enough... unless she has severe

diarrhea.

Day 2, not doing so well...

I know this part is probably the hardest. My daughter has given up her

formula and refuses juices. Yesterday, (Day 1) went well. She ate

very little, but at least it was something. She awoke this morning

crying, and didn't stop for hours. She didn't eat anything for

breakfast. I know she just wanted her formula. Finally, she did

settle. She's VERY sleepy. She awoke after a short nap and ate a ton,

(for her) of chicken and broth with carrots. She then took another

nap, (still sleeping now after 2 hours). This isn't at all normal for

her. She vomits all dairy, including goat's milk. Will she just

eventually give in to drinking watered down juice or is there a milk

alternative for this diet that we can start asap? What about the

excessive napping? Please help.

Thanks,

This is often the hardest part for parents because some children do refuse to

eat or drink certain things. The excessive sleep isn't abnormal. Her body is

going through a period of detoxification...ridding itself of the overgrown,

harmful flora that have been feeding on the starches in her formula...and other

starchy items that she's been consuming. Chicken broth is a fluid, so if she'll

eat the chicken and carrots in broth, that's good. Have you tried the diluted

Welch's 100% white or purple grape juice in the plastic bottle on the juice

aisle at the supermarket? Water, diluted legal grape juice, or the chicken or

beef broth is great for fluids. Fluids are important, so make sure to try to

push those. You can also try making the grape juice into jello. She might eat

the jello, and that would be fluids. Also, try freezing the juice into

popsicles for her to eat. She will get through this period. I actually think

she's doing well.
