Guest guest
susan, i wouldn't buy more than one...the stuff is not cheap and you don't even know if you'll tolerate it yet. we use progurt, and one bottle has lasted me about 7 months so far. it's just for my 2 year old and i. we use 1/4 tsp for two quarts of milk. one quart of milk lasts us about a week...we take 2 tablespoons each, twice a day. we started with 1/4 tsp one month and a half ago, and i don't see us increasing this amount for at least another 4 weeks. very very slowly. like patti said, it's medicine. you can't think of it as food anymore, the way you probably used to. hope that helps. silvia scd 2 months, for eczema > I still haven't ordered yogurt starter as I am hoping someone can > give me an idea of how much I will need. Guest guest
I am confused about the yogurt being " medicine " . I give my daughter as much as she wants - could this be causing diarrhea. I would say she eats at least 1/2-1 cup of homemade goat yogurt. Amy > > I still haven't ordered yogurt starter as I am hoping someone can give me an idea of how much I will need. Guest guest
Amy, When we say the SCD yogurt is " medicine " , we just mean to remember that the probiotics in it are very powerful, and can trigger new rounds of die-off. Did you start of by introducing a very small amount, and increase gradually? If you did slowly work up to the current amount, then that is okay. But if she has diarrhea, something is not right. Did the diarrhea start when you started the yogurt? Patti Re: How much yogurt? I am confused about the yogurt being " medicine " . Guest guest
I'm a little confused about this too, as somewhere on the website I remember Elaine saying to start w/1/2 cup and increase to no more than 3 cups/day (or something like that -- geeze that website is so extensive I get tired of re-looking things up!). Then I also see the comment about starting with 1/8 tsp. Is one example for those who were not previously dairy-free and the other for those who were? - Amy wrote: I am confused about the yogurt being " medicine " . Guest guest
, Sometimes the instructions for those with IBD is different for those with Autism. Many autistic or spectrum kids come to SCD dairy-free and have concerns with the casein found in our fermented dairy. It is suggested here that an autistic child that was dairy-free before starting SCD go dairy-free for a month or so and then very slowly add the goat yogurt. The yogurt is full of beneficial bacteria and can cause some die-off reactions. Starting with 1/8 tsp gives parents a chance to cope with that. Then slowly it can increase as the child gets used to it. Some of us with IBD don't always need to start that slowly and can handle cow milk yogurt no problem. It is very individual. Guest guest
Amy, If you think the yogurt may be causing the diarrhea she's been having, I do think you might want to back up a bit.... not give quite so much... and see if that makes a difference. It may be something she'll need more time to adjust to, then you can increase slowly. Patti Re: How much yogurt? So...is it okay to give Chloe at least 1 cup per day.
