Guest guest
hi group, i've got a question that hopefully a postop can question...after reading about ruquayya's blood clots, i was wondering how do we know if we've developed clots postop, or any other complication such as a leak? i have read the manual, and realize that dr r repeatedly reminds us of the complications and risks of this surgery, but i haven't read what the symptoms of the complications are. (does he go over this in clinic?) and about leaks, do postop patients have any radiological exam before leaving the hospital to assure that there is not a leak? and about insurance coverage...i'm aware of the $255 clinic cost, and the $1,000 deposit to dr r., but if your insurance only covers a percentage (say 80%) and you are responsible for the remaining 20%, is this to be paid at the same time of the $1,255, or will they bill you for the balance? i am self-insured, and fighting for approval on a plan that currently states any treatment for obesity is excluded. however, i have handed in my letter from dr r, along with a letter from my pcp and of course one from myself. i was told that they would not make an exception for one person, but, they would meet with the board of directors to decide if this should be amended to our current policy! i was told last week that this meeting would be taking place this coming week!!! i work in a hospital, and i run into these folks daily, so bet your bootie that i'll be like a tic on a dogs behind until they change this to go in my (and others) favor. if you believe in the power of prayer, please remember to keep this meeting in yours...if you're not the praying type, please keep your fingers and all other body parts crossed for this important decision. i was told that if they decide to move forward on this, the next step will be to have the insurance co research further, and any changes will take place in february of next year...only 4 months away! i'm trying to keep a positive outlook, and i'm counting on surgery in feb or march!!! enough for one post...didn't mean for this to be soooo long. leilla from claremont
Guest guest
Dear Leilla, He goes over the complications in detail at the preop clinic ( in addition to all the printed material in the patient education manual.) I did not have a post op radiological exam before leaving the hospital. You would know by your symptoms. Pain, Pain, Pain !!! I was self pay so I can't really answer your questions regarding payment. Sorry.
