Kathy,

after started taking his helmet off the ortho added more velcro to the strap to where you would need both hands to open it, making it impossible for him to do it. It looks more complicated when I try to explain it myself.

Maybe your ortho can call her so she can explain? Her name is Ellie Dias 813-985-5000 at Westcoast Brace & Limb. If not let me know and we can find a different way.

Hi,Yesterday was a big milestone in 's development. He took his helmet off, placed it on the table, and continued playing. I had to try really hard not to show any reaction that would encourage this. He easily removed his helmet again that night. It is not so much that he minds the helmet, but that he enjoys removing it. When the helmet is off, he sometimes asks for it back on.I remember reading on this lists tricks for keeping the helmet on an older baby. Sorry, I'm not sure how to find the email thread. How again do people keep the Starband helmet strap down on toddlers? Thanks,Kathy, mom to , 22.5 months

Hi,

Thanks.  My husband asked the ortho about adding more velcro, but he

didn't seem to think it would work.  I stopped worrying about it for

awhile since stopped taking his helmet off as much.  Then

yesterday I was horrified to hear he had taken it off at daycare, then

refused to let the teacher put it back on and so he took a 2+ hour nap

with it off.  The teacher forgot how he slept and I am worried he slept

on his flat spot.  At least when I asked the teacher whether he slept

on his flat spot, she told me she couldn't see the flat spot, so she

didn't know where it was.  (Of course, it is obvious to me, but at

least most other people really don't seem to see it any more, although

I don't quite understand how they cannot see it.)  After 's nap, he

wanted his helmet back on and he hasn't tried to take it off since.

Just to make sure, my husband duct taped the strap shut today for

daycare.  I managed to find in the old emails where someone suggested a

big metal hair piece.  So that is on our shopping list to find.  If

neither the tape nor hair clip work, I may try to get more details on

putting the extra velcro on.

Thanks again,

Kathy, mom to almost 23 months

Hi Kathy,

the velcro worked just fine for us but the tape worked fine too. I tried that before the velcro.
