Guest guest
All these things " might " add calories, but at what cost? Many of these foods are notarious for increasing total body inflammation, which is the root of the problem in CF. You're better off eating a normal balanced diet, with attention paid to high quality omega-rich proteins and high quality carbs such as fruits and vegetables loaded with helpful vitamins, minerals, and those crucial antioxidants. It's best to avoid refined carbs that contain a lot of sugar (why feed bacteria) and poor quality fats and oils that increase inflammation. Guest guest
Kim, I think you are right about this. Zach does not handle lots of butter very well and high fat meats (bologna, bacon, etc.) are difficult for him too. He can't even eat crescent rolls (which I love). His bowel movements are really oily and mushy when he eats this stuff. We increase his enzymes but it doesn't help. Some with cf do very well eating lots of butter and other fats, but some don't. A friend of mine has a 4.5 yo wcf that is as big as a 6 yo. She eats lots of Hormel microwavable meals loads of butter without any problems. Zach finally gained a few ounces this month but we can't figure out how it happened. He has even been fighting a cold and not eating. Maybe it was just luck but I will take every ounce I can get.
