Guest guest
Hey everyone, I want to say hello. I found the group doing research on pancreatitis brought on by gallstones. Here is my abbreviated story. I am a 40 year old male and I have had abdominal pain off and on for 4 years now with many diagnosis. I had a colonoscopy, upper endoscopy, several cat scans all kinds of blood work. I have been diagnosed with a prostate infection (on cipro for monthes), chronic inflammation of the rib cage and the cop out diagnosis of irritable bowel. Amazingly enough, noone thought about doing an ultrasound of the gall bladder. One night in the ER, the doc pressed on the upper right abdomen and I yelped. He ordered an ultrasound which showed a gall bladder full of sludge. The blood work showed that my Amino Phospotase levels were elevated. A follow up HIDA scan showed a 17% ejection level and the doc wants me to have the gallbladder removed. The gastro doc says that my enzymes levels are off because my pancreas is damaged by the blockage ion the gallbladder. I am still waiting to get the surgery done and it scares me to death because most the pain is actually from the pancreas. I am afraid I have permanent damage to the pnacreas from the gallbladder being blocked up for so long. What is the point of having surgery if the pain is just going to continue? Anyways, this has been long.....sorry. I did have some questions though. 1) Has anyone had pancreas pain/blockage resolved by gallbladder removal?....... and with 4 plus yeares of damage to the pancreas, has it been too long and is the damage possibly permanent? 2) I won't be able to have the surgery until January. In the meantime, what can I do to help the pain and tightness when it flares? It is tender 24/7 and flares up after almost any food. Donnatel seesm to help a bit. Any suggestions???? \ Thanks guys.
