Guest guest
We just started our 21 month ASD son on the SCD diet today, after being GFCF for 2 months. I just want to make sure we are off to the right start....read the book, printed everything I could find off of the pecanbread website, and have been reading everyone's responses. Anyway, are we in compliance after day 1? Homemade chicken broth from organic chicken, Scrambled organic egg, Pureed organic carrots, home-made jello using grape juice (commercial), Hamburger patty, and distilled water. Supplements: Kirkman's Taurine, Kirkman's L-Glutamine, Kirkman's Spectrum Complete, Solaray CoQ-10, Solaray Zinc, HNI enzymes (on hold at the moment), Milk Thistle Seed, Cod Liver Oil, and Kirkman's Calcium/Magnesium. I had been using an Acidophilus/Bifidus, but it has potato starch in it so I would love some advice about what everyone else is using. Also, does anyone have a recommendation for a good grape juice, or are we better off making it ourselves? Any other suggestions for legal liquids? My little guy requires a lot of liquids and isn't a big fan of plain water Any advice is welcomed! Liz 21 month ASD son - SCD 1 day!
Guest guest
Liz, You asked: <<Anyway, are we in compliance after day 1? Homemade chicken broth from organic chicken, Scrambled organic egg, Pureed organic carrots, home-made jello using grape juice (commercial), Hamburger patty, and distilled water.>> Your foods all look just fine. Remember that the Intro Diet only needs to last two days, unless diarrhea is ongoing... then five days is the max. <<Supplements: Kirkman's Taurine, Kirkman's L-Glutamine, Kirkman's Spectrum Complete, Solaray CoQ-10, Solaray Zinc, HNI enzymes (on hold at the moment), Milk Thistle Seed, Cod Liver Oil, and Kirkman's Calcium/Magnesium.>> When it comes to supplements, I think many of the Kirkman products are okay, although not all of theirs are. You need to be using the " hypoallergenic " form of the Spectrum Complete, I know that. And the only cal/mag of theirs that is legal is one in capsules. I am not familiar with the Solaray products. I don't have time to go Google each one and check them for you..... but I can tell you to compare all the ingredients to the list on www.pecanbread.com under " Supplements " .... on the legal/illegal supplement additives list. Be sure to look at all of your labels especially where they list " other ingredients " .... that's where traces of illegals often hide. <<I had been using an Acidophilus/Bifidus, but it has potato starch in it so I would love some advice about what everyone else is using.>> Bifidus strains are all illegal on SCD. L.acidophilus and s.boulardii are the only bacterial strains that are technically legal as supplemental probiotics. <<Also, does anyone have a recommendation for a good grape juice, or are we better off making it ourselves?>> Welch's grape juice... in the bottles, not the frozen.... is legal. They have purple, red and white varieties.... all legal. Remember to dilute ALL juices by 50% in the beginning. Knudsen's " Just Grape " is also legal.... and Kedem kosher grape juice. <<Any other suggestions for legal liquids? My little guy requires a lot of liquids and isn't a big fan of plain water >> All of the Knudsen " Just " juices are legal.... but only those in that line, not their other juices. If you have a juicer, you can juice any fruits or veggies in the beginning (don't have to cook them if using a centrifugal type juicer that strains out the pulp).... but be sure to dilute. My daughter drinks SCD lemonade.... a wedge of fresh lemon juice squeezed into a cup of water, sweetened with honey or saccharin. Guest guest
Liz, I forgot I was going to say that Kirkman has a legal l.acidophilus. It's just that strain alone, in a capsule (which you can open and mix into food, if need be). Patti Re: First Day - are we ok? <<I had been using an Acidophilus/Bifidus, but it has potato starch in it so I would love some advice about what everyone else is using.>> Bifidus strains are all illegal on SCD. Guest guest
Thank you so much for all your advice! I plan on placing an order into Kirkman's today. I'm also going to look over the list for legals/illegals in supplements....I must have missed that one. Patti wrote: Liz, I forgot I was going to say that Kirkman has a legal l.acidophilus.
