That seems weird to me, too. As I've said in other posts, our DAn is very

knowledgeable about SCD and knew Elaine. She has always said that the Kirkman

probiotic is enough...as far as strains of bacteria. She has told me that we

may increase it at some point, but only if we see a lot of yeast indicators.

We're only taking one...always have been...and we've been chelating for four

months now. Maybe some else knows more about a custom probiotic being

necessary, but I wouldn't start with that. I'd start chelating, and see how it

goes first.

Custom Probiotics- Legal??

We are in NY seeing our DAN practitioner for the initiation of

chelation therapy, and were advised that we need to change and increase

his dosage of probiotics. He suggested a custom-made probiotic, and

indicated that it would be SCD legal. I'm apprehensive as it seems

that no probiotic is legal except for the lactobacillus acidophilus,

and only one capsule/day at that. He as been SCD for almost 6 months,

and taking Kirkman Lab's lactobacillus acid. all that time. So, my

question, is there a custom probiotic which is SCD legal?

,

The only SCD legal Custom Probiotics probiotic supplement is their

Acidophilus. The one that ONLY contains Acidophilus.

I am aware that Custom Probiotics makes a multiple strain one that has

bifidus, but that is not allowed on SCD.

Sheila's comments regarding bifidus.

I know lots who have had major problems with bifidum bacteria

(especially when on SCD).

Perhaps it is because the SCD clears out the harmful microbes and

bifidum takes over, overgrowing into huge numbers. The by-products of

bifidum bacteria could be what sends people into flares - especially

those who have sensitive guts or those at the beginning of the diet,

these people unfortunately have " fertile ground " for bifidum bacteria

to overgrow. "

There is ONE other thing that is *sort of* a probiotic, that is legal.... and

that is s.boulardii. It is not a bacterial strain, it is a beneficial yeast. It

seems to help with clostridia infections. Other than that, yes.... only

acidophilus.

The doctor might mistakenly be thinking that the kids can have ANY strain of

probiotic, as long as no illegal starches or sugars are added. That's not true,

however.

>I just ordered from Custom Probiotics. When I spoke to the man he

said as long as it did not have bifidus that it was okay. He said

that he was familiar with the SCD and that they use it with many

children with autism.

Did he give me wrong info. The reason why we changed is becaue I

have read that often times children with high D lactic acid can have

a problem with the asidophilus which is the case for my son and he

seemed to be reacting to this or something in his probiotic. Anyways

I hope I didn't just waste all that money.
