Is this reply from one person or 3 different? I'd like to know more from

the person who said rheumatoid arthritis can also effect the cartilage.

Does she mean ear cartilage?

I saw my ENT this morning and he doesn't think I have rp. He is the one who

initially mentioned it to me a month ago when he first saw me. He couldn't

find anything else wrong with my ears when he examined me. I mentioned to

him that I also had a pleural friction rub, which could be an early sign of

rheumatoid arthritis but I test negative for it. The pulmonary specialist I

saw for the pleural rub said my rub was most likely caused by a virus or it

could be an early indicator of rheumatoid arthritis. When I told the ENT

this he thought of rp because it is an autoimmune disease, so with the

speculation of rheumatoid arthritis and the painful ear he came up with rp.

Today when I saw him he said he has seen cases of rp and he said those

individuals have extremely red ears that are painful and swollen. He said

they can also sometimes have lesions on them. He said he didn't mean for me

to get all worried about this, well HELLO! LOL He initially said he

thought I might be in the early stages of rp. So now I guess my big

question is, 'Did anyone else start out with ONLY ear pain, no redness, no

swelling and then it progressed to the 'typical' rp ears?' The pulmonary

specialist put me on celebrex to reduce the inflammation of the rub but that

could be helping my ear if I have rp. See what I'm saying. So, I'm at a

loss here. I see the Rheumatologist on October 1st.

Would you ask the group if anyone else's ears started out like mine, just

pain and then developed into the redness and inflammation? I wonder if I'm

in the very, very early stages. I feel some discomfort today when I open

and close my mouth, it aches in front of my ear. The ENT said TMJ pain

could cause that and even the discomfort I feel behind my ear would be TMJ

related.

Thank you for the responses you've gotten for me. And if you don't mind

asking them one more? LOL

,

At times, my left ear has gotten red and swollen without being

painful to the touch, unless I squeezed it fairly strongly. But I've

never had the opposite, pain without it being red. I do get pain

inside of my ear, so it feels like a pressure has built up overnight

and it hurts to lay on it, but that is definitely " inside " the ear.

If you feel that this may confuse the issue too much, feel free to

disregard my message and just send " easier " answers to her! :)
