Guest guest
Approx. one month ago we started SCD diet, we had already been implementing a supplimentation protocol that had shwn some improvements in te color and formation of my sons stool for the first time ever. Two weeks into the diet we saw what we thought was a die off period. Very unlike my son; Very emothional roller coaster ride for about three days the first day being the worst. He could hardly stand his own skin. On the verge of being violent and was pretty much unconsolable when he would have these moments. he had a virus with vomiting directly following: recovery and a few calm good days. We then had two or three days where he was craving the bread we make from our SCD diet book, some turkey and fruit of any kind. Now, appprox. two weeks since last period, we are seeing a huge increase in his stimming and decrease in concentration, some increase in irratability. Daily Large formed stools ( approp. color). My question is, can anyone tell me if this is likely a second version of die off manifesting in a different form? Sorry to be so graphic in regards to stool, but this is the only visual non subjective sign we feel we really have. We have gone down so many different diet routes that have not panned out and I just don't trust my instinces. It all starts becoming so confusing after you have been down so many roads befor that you don't want to confuse this with last diet or advice that was given to you. thank you in advance for advice, from someone who know! Guest guest
, We would need you to let us know exactly what he's eating. Are you supplementing with probiotics? If so, which ones? If he eating SCD yogurt? It sounds a little bit like maybe yeast has flared up right after you started. Has that been a problem in the past? Some need to scale back on sweet fruits and honey for a little while, and/or use natural antifungals. The most critical thing, though, is the supplemental acidophilus and/or yogurt. Guest guest
, Please list all of the foods he is eating right now, and how they are prepared. You all need to give a list of any supplements or medications that he is currently taking. Guest guest
Patti, thanks so much for your fast response! Everything that we feed him is organic, For instance: typical breakfast: nitrite, nitrate free Bacon Bread made from receipe book, pg 120 of breaking vicious cycle, with butter on it sometimes, pear and spinach smoothie, often times eggs as well. Lunch and or dinner: Boars head turkey , nitrate/ nitrite free hot dogs,(ingredience organic beef, water , sea salt, organic spices, carlic powder, paprika, celery juice, onion, lactic acid starter culture not from milk), ground beef, burgers, roast beef, chicken baked in egg and almond flour, Fresh organic green beans, califlower, lettuce, broccoli, carrots, Peanut butter brownies, pg 131 of BtVC. White grape juice popcicle, red rasberries, apples. This may be the real focus: We noticed the increase stimming and all that I discribed earlier on the march 31, we introduced the 26th a possible problem Fruitabu fruit bars (ingredience: organic rasberries or other fruit depending on the flavor, juice concentrate, puree concentrate, palm fruit oil citrus pectin, citric acid, fruit juice from color, sodium citrate, acerola fruit extract, natural vitamin C, soy Lecithin) ouch!! also we allowed him to have " just fruit munchies " dried fruit with no additives. at the same time. We had a problem with the probiotic that we had, it had Corn starch in it and we are pretty sure he cannot handle corn therefor we did not get him started on any till the 29th and we read that it was best to switch off with another every other day. So we got Solaray Multidphilus,1 cap each containing 1 billion L.acidophilus,1 billion B Bifidum, 1 billion L. Bulgaricus Ingredients: gelatin, cellulose, stearic acid, magnesium sterate and maltodextrin, started the 29th, then Health Foods unlimited childrens Acidophilus 1 chewable tab each with 1 billion of L. Acidophilus, L. rhamnosus, Bifidobacterium longum. Ingredients Dorbital, xyltitol, maltodextrin, stearic acid, palmitic acid, natural grape flavor, microcrystalline cellulose, citric acid, magnesium stearate, ascorbic acid as a preservative and natural color, started the 30th. Sorry this is so lengthy, as I am writting this Im sure we have screwed up! If we have caused his yeast to flare back up have we ruined everything we might have gained? Thanks so much for your help! > , > > We would need you to let us know exactly what he's eating. Are you supplementing with probiotics? If so, which ones? Guest guest
.... <<nitrite free hot dogs,(ingredience organic beef, water , sea salt, organic spices, carlic powder, paprika, celery juice, onion, lactic acid starter culture not from milk),>> These hot dogs are not legal.... I'm sorry. <<red rasberries,>> Since he's a beginner, these berries are fine.... as long as you're cooking them and straining out all the seeds with a fine mesh sieve. <<apples.>> Peeled and cooked only, right? <<we introduced the 26th a possible problem Fruitabu fruit bars (ingredience: organic rasberries or other fruit depending on the flavor, juice concentrate, puree concentrate, palm fruit oil citrus pectin, citric acid, fruit juice from color, sodium citrate, acerola fruit extract, natural vitamin C, soy Lecithin) ouch!!>> Definitely NOT legal on SCD. Sorry. <<also we allowed him to have " just fruit munchies " dried fruit>> These would *possibly* be legal.... but it's FAR too soon for dried fruit. Something like this should be introduced much later, after quite a bit of gut healing has happened. <<So we got Solaray Multidphilus,1 cap each containing 1 billion L.acidophilus,1 billion B Bifidum, 1 billion L. Bulgaricus Ingredients: gelatin, cellulose, stearic acid, magnesium sterate and maltodextrin,>> ABSOLUTELY and COMPLETELY illegal!!!! PLEASE stop using this product! It contains many bacterial strains that are not allowed on SCD..... but also has MALTODEXTRIN, which is strictly NOT allowed at ALL! <<Health Foods unlimited childrens Acidophilus 1 chewable tab each with 1 billion of L. Acidophilus, L. rhamnosus, Bifidobacterium longum. Ingredients Dorbital, xyltitol, maltodextrin, stearic acid, palmitic acid, natural grape flavor, microcrystalline cellulose, citric acid, magnesium stearate, ascorbic acid as a preservative and natural color,>> ALSO COMPLETELY AND UTTERLY ILLEGAL. Also contains bacterial strains that are not allowed.... but on top of that, contains " Dorbital " (I assume this is some kind of sweetener.... which all I can only tell you is NOT legal), xylitol (ILLEGAL), maltodextrin (ILLEGAL) and " natural grape flavor " and " natural color " (both *potentially* illegal.... but it doesn't even matter because there are SO many other illegals in this product). You simply cannot use this on SCD and hope to have any progress. I'm so sorry, you seem to have started SCD without proper guidance.... or maybe without reading the book?? I'm not sure what the situation is. Do you have the book, Breaking the Vicious Cycle? I will try to help you out if I can, but you've got to stop giving these products immediately. Guest guest
> > Patti, > Have you done the intro diet, read the website: www.pecanbread.com The Fruitibars and hot dogs contain several " illegals. " Organic is good but only if legal. Storebought things like most hot dogs and " bars " usuually contain illegals and those bars that don't are still not advised until the person is advanced or healed. Things in the foods mentioned above would cause problems Carol F. SCD7 years, celiac
Guest guest
.... After re-reading your message, after sending my last response, I do see that you have the book. So, I apologize.... please disregard my question about that. It's easy to make mistakes with this diet, even with the book in hand. Elaine's website, www.breakingtheviciouscycle.info is a good resource for checking out ingredients in supplements and such.... xylitol and maltodextrin, for example, are listed as illegal on her legal/illegal list. The book *may* not be clear enough regarding such things as dried fruit... an advanced food.... but even then, you need to make your own *most* of the time.
