Guest guest
http://www.cdc.gov/ncidod/dbmd/diseaseinfo/haeminfluserob_t.htm The current vaccine is for serotype B only, but more are being developed for the other serotypes as the spread of this thing in the general population approaches pandemic proportions; my cf doc is in a state of panic over it and cannot wait for ALL the serotypes to be included; he said today that all the serotypes are being found as infection in our cf population and need, in his opinion, to be treated vigorously; they are already working on a vaccine for two of the other serotypes. However, lucky me, today, I have type B, and am on Levaquin, Zithromax (both) and Fluconazole--learned much more than I ever have wanted to know today, Love to you and to with highest hopes, n Rojas Re: Re: has a new bug (for her) I believe that HiB and Haemophilus Influenza (not flu) are two different bugs and there are two different vaccines for them. The first is related to meningitis. Haemophilus Influenza is not. Guest guest
Well - I have learned more today than I wanted to know, too. Thanks to n for the further info. I didn't think that it was type b that we were worried about usually infecting the respiratory system of people with CF. You prove differently. Many years ago, Haemophilus Influenza was cultured from my son's sputum but disappeared on its own (no treatment) when staph aureus moved in. Now I wonder what serotype it was. Thanks, M Re: Re: has a new bug (for her)/ .... all the serotypes are being > found as infection in our cf population and need, in his opinion, to be treated > vigorously; they are already working on a vaccine for two of the other serotypes. > However, lucky me, today, I have type B, and am on Levaquin, Zithromax (both) > and Fluconazole--learned much more than I ever have wanted to know today, > Love to you and to with highest hopes, n Rojas
Guest guest
, I was not really clear (this is news?); MOST cf patients do NOT have sero type B in their lungs as such; I most likely have it because decades ago I had H.flu sero type B meningitis and survived to just now remember that! Most do NOT have that sero type in their lungs, but it never hurts to ask the doctor for the lab culture results in Eng lish!!!! Good luck with all this, Love to you and yours, n, eternally bringing the data, while ringing the bell of hopefullness--and mucking up the post in the process!!!! Symptoms and h ow they determined it was the H. flu? The summer before my son was diagnosed with CF he ended up in the hospital with meningitis due to lyme disease or so they thought. It wasn't definitive but it was the most likely diagnosis. I'm wondering if it could have been something else. jan
Guest guest
I sent many websites on this and many posts yesterday; these should be available on the site of cfparents; your concern is justified, of course; they can test for Haemophylus Influenzae (bacterium) anti- bodies, though. Good luck, n Re: has a new bug (for her)/ I had H.flu sero type B meningitis and survived to just > now remember that!
