You could try colloidal silver for her. Also, have you asked her ped to do a

blood draw to check white blood cell count? This would give you a good idea of

infection levels. For you inflammation problem, have you consider mild

hyperbaric treatment?

natural antibiotics

My 9 year old NT daughter has had a lot of problem with cavitiies, and

had two baby teeth break where fillings were put in, and it's been very

hard to keep it clean. Now, last night, she had an abscess in the gum

above those teeth, where white fluid came out, followed by clear, then

blood. Of course her dentist wants to put her on antibiotics, claiming

it can't be helped locally, that the infection has gone to her blood,

and oral antibiotics are all that can help. She has no pain from the

location, and has no fever, loss of energy, or any other symptoms of a

" blood " infection. I am loathe to give her antibiotics, as I have

Crohn's, and was in remission on SCD until last year, when I was given

one single antibiotic shot after a procedure for a miscarriage, and I

have had high inflammation for this entire year, and cannot tolerate

fruit, honey, peanuts, or cashews since there. I am currently trying

to decide what to do next, since my inflammation has not gone down

since May, and the SCD is obviously not working. But I don't want to

start the cycle in her at all.

Does anyone have suggestions for natural antibiotics, since the dentist

said topical won't work. We are doing salt water gargles; I had her

apply olive oil mixed with tea tree and oregano oil, and am considering

giving her juiced garlic mixed with the carrot. But has anyone gone

through a tooth abscess with their child without resorting to

antibiotics? She has had one round of antibiotics back when she was 2

for an ear infection which wouldn't resolve with natural means, but

that is it. She is extremely healthy and gets through flus and colds

without problems, except for her cavity history (I really neglected her

baby teeth for the first 2 years, and she's eaten a lot of honey on

this diet which I think has made things worse; we've been restricting

her sweets intake the last 1/2 year, but she's still getting cavities

in the baby teeth. She is not 100% SCD, but eats mostly SCD.) These

are baby teeth that she's having the abscess from, and in January,

we're going to consider pulling it so it stops the ongoing problems.

Of course, the dentist says he can't work on the tooth until she has

antibiotics for the infection. And we're about the leave for a road

trip to Seattle, on top of everything, which is further reason I don't

want to give her antibiotics for this.

Are there strong natural antibiotics that I could give her systemically

so I don't have to begin the slippery antibiotic slope? I am doing

everything I can to prevent them from getting IBD, and avoidance of

antibiotics is key. Getting that antibiotic shot for me was under the

assumption that IV antibiotics were better than oral. Maybe, but it

was the cause of permanent regression for me that I cannot turn around,

and I think both are very dangerous.

I don't blame the dentist for being nervous about letting this abcess go

untreated. Especially when it comes to an upper tooth (baby tooth or permanent),

it is very close to the brain and *can* be very serious. When an abcess ruptures

out through the bone and gum tissue, it is actually called a " fistula " , which

then bursts and drains to alleviate the pressure and swelling that the infection

was causing at the root of the existing tooth.

This, I suppose, *can* heal naturally.... but once it has gone to that point,

it's really, really infected.... and whether he's right about the infection

having already become systemic or not, it certainly can do that... and very

quickly. Not as serious, but still a concern, an ongoing or recurrent infection

there can damage the permanent tooth that is still developing under it.

I would be pretty nervous about treating this with something " natural " . This is

not the same as a topical skin infection, or even just a local gum infection....

this has originated under the BONE. Too close to the brain for my comfort

level. I just came from taking Katera to the dentist.... she had an upper baby

molar break off at the gumline six months ago.... and we have been closely

monitoring it. Since I used to be a dental assistant, I knew what to watch for

and kept a close eye on it for any sign of a fistula.

I personally am as anti-antibiotics as just about anyone.... I once refused

antibiotics for strep throat, with promises to monitor for scarlet

fever/rheumatic fever, but otherwise just got well with lots of vitamins and

herbs.... but I don't think I would mess around with something like this.

Really. Not with a child. With strep throat, doctors treat with antibiotics

" just in case " the patient is one of the 5% or fewer that will develop a more

serious infection that would cause heart or brain damage.... you *can* get well

without them. However, this tooth infection your daughter has is ALREADY a

bona-fide infection.... it's not a viral illness or something. The stuff you

are doing with the salt water and tea tree oil will work on the outside, surface

part.... but not deep into the bone where the infection has originated.

If you really want a good systemic " natural " antibiotic.... I suppose olive leaf

extract would be my favorite..... and LOADS of fresh garlic. But, I honestly

wouldn't advise it in this case. I would do the antibiotics.... and just pour

SCD yogurt and acidophilus into her afterward. It's up to you, of course, but

my advice is go the standard medical route.

my two cents....
