's doc put her on IV antibiotics before she had the nissan and g-tube

surgery. She hasn't had adenoid surgery, but she did culture PA at the time, so

it is probably not unheard of.

IV antibiotics BEFORE adenoid surgery?

I spoke briefly to the CF doc today. Ashton is supposed to have his

adenoids removed MArch 2 and he just cultured PA for the 1st time

last week. He is on TOBI. Now the CF doc mentioned that Ashton

should be on IV antibiotics BEFORE the adenoid surgery! Does that

sound right? It is a pretty minor surgery. Ashton has never been on

IV antibiotics except at birth (premature, surgery for meconium

ileus). Any thoughts? Is my CF doc being OVER protective? Did any

of your kids who had their adenoids removed also have PA at the same

time?

We've been told cf kids should be on iv antibiotics before ANY surgery. The

reason is that general anesthetics depress lung function, so the kids need

to be in the best possible lung situation BEFORE anesthetics are

administered. We did this with , even before his wisdom teeth were

removed.
