Guest guest
My 9 year old NT daughter has had a lot of problem with cavitiies, and had two baby teeth break where fillings were put in, and it's been very hard to keep it clean. Now, last night, she had an abscess in the gum above those teeth, where white fluid came out, followed by clear, then blood. Of course her dentist wants to put her on antibiotics, claiming it can't be helped locally, that the infection has gone to her blood, and oral antibiotics are all that can help. She has no pain from the location, and has no fever, loss of energy, or any other symptoms of a " blood " infection. I am loathe to give her antibiotics, as I have Crohn's, and was in remission on SCD until last year, when I was given one single antibiotic shot after a procedure for a miscarriage, and I have had high inflammation for this entire year, and cannot tolerate fruit, honey, peanuts, or cashews since there. I am currently trying to decide what to do next, since my inflammation has not gone down since May, and the SCD is obviously not working. But I don't want to start the cycle in her at all. Does anyone have suggestions for natural antibiotics, since the dentist said topical won't work. We are doing salt water gargles; I had her apply olive oil mixed with tea tree and oregano oil, and am considering giving her juiced garlic mixed with the carrot. But has anyone gone through a tooth abscess with their child without resorting to antibiotics? She has had one round of antibiotics back when she was 2 for an ear infection which wouldn't resolve with natural means, but that is it. She is extremely healthy and gets through flus and colds without problems, except for her cavity history (I really neglected her baby teeth for the first 2 years, and she's eaten a lot of honey on this diet which I think has made things worse; we've been restricting her sweets intake the last 1/2 year, but she's still getting cavities in the baby teeth. She is not 100% SCD, but eats mostly SCD.) These are baby teeth that she's having the abscess from, and in January, we're going to consider pulling it so it stops the ongoing problems. Of course, the dentist says he can't work on the tooth until she has antibiotics for the infection. And we're about the leave for a road trip to Seattle, on top of everything, which is further reason I don't want to give her antibiotics for this. Are there strong natural antibiotics that I could give her systemically so I don't have to begin the slippery antibiotic slope? I am doing everything I can to prevent them from getting IBD, and avoidance of antibiotics is key. Getting that antibiotic shot for me was under the assumption that IV antibiotics were better than oral. Maybe, but it was the cause of permanent regression for me that I cannot turn around, and I think both are very dangerous. Debora
