Guest guest
Dear Karyn, I like your idea of encouraging people to take action and I was wondering if you would like us to add a page to the NDDB website that lists your links and maybe adds a message about why it is important for patients to take action whenever an experience violates some accrediting agency policy or other governing agencies criteria (HIPPA comes to mind too). A heartfelt, patient wide plea and explanation of why unhappy people should use the complaint process may be helpful to getting a higher rate of initiate of the process. If you are interested in writing this, or providing information for me to write an appropriate plea, I think this will enhance the whole objective of the National Doctor DataBase. If you are interested in letting us add an advocacy page or a patient action page, please let me know and my friend would be very happy to do this for the website. Guest guest
My question is: Why is it like this? Why do so many doctors treat pancreatitis cases like we are all a bunch of liars That we are faking somehow, they don't believe you. (A) Is it that the Mds are not taught about how severe pancreatitis is and how many organ systems become involved? Some seem simply clueless. ( Is it because of the pressures they get from the drug administration that they are leary of this disease because it involves alot of pain medication to eat and live? © Is it their fear that we will become dependant on the pain meds and they don't want that for you.? So they provide you with pain meds that don't provided adequate pain relief so they can keep the doses down. They make you beg, like a drug seaker, to get stronger medication so we can eat, drink and live. How do we fix this mess? We all keep saying there has got to be a reason we all have this horrible disease and maybe this is it. We need to do just what Karyn said, report the horrible treatment. Also the medical schools need to educate the new Mds on this disease, the pain and long term pain management that comes with it. The hospitals need to call meetings of their staff and teach the existing Mds about this disease the way they need to know. And maybe the members of PAI can get the word out somehow. Just a thought......... Love w
Guest guest
Hi and all, JUST few thoughts on this topic in the hope that fellow patients strive to seek a good permanent relationship with a good Gastro. That might solve some folks problems or at least help a little. And I have no statistics to support these ideas but maybe others can easily supply their own or own thoughts. First pancreatitis is a relatively rare disease, while MD's get some training it cannot be high on the list of class hours. MD's likely spend more time in " How to identify chicken pox " than pancreatitis. Second, there are a lot more drug addicts and thus drug seekers than there are pancreatitis patients. Therefore the government and profession pressure is directed to addicts a lot more than pancreatitis, A MD who spends three years as a resident and then in practice likely sees a lot more drug abuse than drug use. And, a good GI being a specialist might be much more likely to provide a good right dose script that works rather than fighting the patient about drugs. Third, if a patient that ends up in an ER can have the treating MD call your GI they might be much more likely to provide the better meds. The problem there is how to get your GI to answer the phone at 3am. I don't have any real answers to our problems, however I do think that taking the time and effort to get to a good relationship with a good GI is worth it. Best wishes to all, try to stay dry this weekend, hope you all have a good stash if the weather causes delays in your plans, Poncho - GA
