Guest guest
Hi All, I am posting what has been happening to me over the last 2 months with the hopes that others that are battling the same will know that they are not alone and because it helps me to get a good cry out of my system to people who understand. First, I have CP and SOD. I have had this diagnosis since early 2003. Mid October of last year, I was unable to tolerate any food or drink. Went into the hospital beginning of November for PICC line placement for TPN. A week later that PICC line had to be replaced because they nicked a lymph node during placement and the insertion site kept draining. I had been on TPN for 4 weeks and tried eating, but still couldn't tolerate food. Last Sunday, January 2nd, wasn't a good day and went to bed early. I woke up soon after with shaking chills and a fever of about 102. I went to the hospital. Apparently, my system decided CP wasn't exciting enough, it decided to go septic. I had a gram negative septic infection. I was told that it was not from the care of the line, but that it was a bacteria that lives in the digestive tract and can become active from not eating. Well, just got out of the hospital today. My new bedfellow (I am on TPN from 6:00 pm - 6:00 am) is now a Hickman catheter. I have another new constant companion and that is another bag for continuous antibiotic so that I now carry two bags around--TPN and the antibiotic. At times I have trouble finding a safe place within my Christian faith to hide out for awhile. Sometimes it gets very hard and I think as hard as I am trying, that this disease is slowly destroying the person that I am. I appreciate that this group is here and that I have a safe place to say these things, God bless us all, Pat
