If a child is sick and needs pain relief or fever reduction, it is okay to go

ahead and use a medication if necessary, even if a bit of illegal starch is

included.

It's best to try to find the medication with as few illegals added as possible.

If I need to give my daughter acetominophen (I can't give her ibuprofen, as

she's allergic to it), I use one regular strength adult tablet (which is the

correct dosage in milligrams for her) and grind it up... mix in applesauce.

Adult formuals for over-the-counter drugs are made for an adult who weighs 150

lbs, so it works perfectly for me to give my daughter a half-dose.... since she

conveniently weighs 76 lbs.

Some of these medications can be found in " Junior strength " tablets.... so you

can get closer to the same dosage she would take in a children's liquid formula

(which nearly always has some sort of sugar, preservatives and food colorings).

Or, you may have to break or cut a tablet and then grind it up to powder.

Ask her doctor.... or a pharmacist... to help you figure out the correct dosage

for your child's weight. Another option is to have the medication compounded by

a special compounding pharmacy (we have them here in the U.S. ... not sure where

you are located in the world?), just to have on hand for next time around.

Here, we can also get acetominophen in a suppository form.... name brand

" Feverall " , which has less impact on the gut.

The cookie infraction is another issue altogether. She is very likely to have

strong cravings at this early stage in the diet.... and you will need to get

used to keeping all the illegals out of her reach. This becomes second nature to

us after a while.... but at first, I know it's hard.

You have two choices.... you can either go back and re-do the Intro diet, if you

feel it's necessary to " clear the decks " ...... OR, you can just get back on the

wagon and move forward and try not to beat yourself up too much. Yes, one bite

of a cookie *can* be a set-back..... and YES, it does matter.... but it's not

the end of the world. I say, just move on and do your best to keep a closer eye

on her quick fingers from now on. Some families have to clear the entire house

of illegals.... or keep them under lock and key. It's worth it in the long

run.... and that " long run " is what you have to keep in mind.

Big mistake help

Hello everyone,

My little one has been on diet for 6 weeks and doing well. Lots of die

off and great response. She has been off for a few days and I think it

is a virus. Today she got worse and started screaming that she had a

sore ear. My husband and I caved in and gave her a dose of paracetamol

and later a dose nurofen (pain relief). Then to top things off on a

very bad day, she grabbed a chocolate biscuit that visitors had

brought over. She must have swallowed a few mouthfuls before I got to

her. As I am very new to all of this I was not sure what to do for

pain relief and panicked. Can anyone tell me what to do in this

situation and let me know how far back I have put her now. Any

suggestions would be great. Venessa.
