Guest guest
Bethany, Many parents report that their children are much calmer. Has she always been this way? Do you give her any magnesium? Epsom salts baths are one way of getting magnesium in (absorbs through the skin) and the baths are generally very calming. I have concerns about parents trying to start SCD while chelating. I sure wish the doctors would put the kids on SCD first..... get the gut in better shape, and THEN do the chelation. It is pretty hard on the gut, and this is just not a good time to begin SCD, because just the diet alone is often rough in the beginning, with bacterial die-off. We also have noticed more than a few parents reporting that prescription anti-fungals end up creating super-resistant yeast.... and that they have yeast rebound worse than ever once they stop using them. Plus, many Rx antifungals contain fillers and additives that are not legal on SCD. We have a number of suggestions for natural anti-fungals and other yeast strategies. Those are just a couple of things to think over before taking the SCD plunge. Patti Can anyone offer me some hope??? I am considering starting this diet for my 5 year old ASD daughter. We've been on the GFCF diet for over a year. I don't think it really has helped her a whole lot... Her biggest problem is hyperactivity. She is constantly moving, jumping, climbing and has been this way since she was a toddler.... I know she has yeast and we give her anti-fungals but the hyperness is always there...We have been doing biomed for 4 months or so and just started chelation. I've ordered the book and have read the website. Forgive me for asking a question that is probably in the book but I need some hope...Will this diet help her with hyperactivity?? Will it allow her to enjoy the activities she so desperatley wants to do?? I feel so sorry for her because she physically cannot sit still... I refuse to put her on ritalin or anything like that. She will be in kindergarten next year and I feel if something does not change she will not be able to learn. Thanks so much, Bethany
Guest guest
Bethany, I'll second what Patty says about starting SCD before chelation. If you haven't started chelating yet, I'd start SCD first. Give it a good four months, and see how your child appears to be healing in the gut. Then, begin chelation if SCD seems to be going well. Even if you think everything is going great before four months of strict SCD, don't start until you've got the four months in. I know you're anxious to get started with chelation to get that metal out of your child. I've been there, so I don't say all of this lightly. You want the gut way on the way to healing before those metals start being processed out of the body. Chelation can also stir up yeast, so allow SCD to clear the decks well before starting chelation. Definitely consider using some natural antifungals and yeast enzymes in place of a prescription antifungal. Think all of this over well before making a decision on the order in which you move forward. It is important to know which is the best road for your child's optimal chance at recovery. Guest guest
Dear Patti, Thanks so much for replying.. Yes, she has always been hyper...It is nothing new.. She gets plenty of magnesium and I do give her the epsom salt baths. She is allergic or intolerant to many foods at least according to the comphrehensive food panel test through Great Plains. We though by just going GFCF that it would help. We don't do prescription anti-fungals but I give her GSE and caprylic acid as well as Candex and Candiese. Are these products legal on the SCD diet? WE have only done 3 rounds of chelation. SO we are not that for along... The doc also wants to start her on Valtrex ... He thinks she has some viral issues. She has never had a fever or ever been sick!! She does have allergies and eczema though... I just want to find something to help her settle down. She is such a sweet little girl and the hyperness, anxiety and, sensory issues really get in the way.... BEthany > > Bethany, > > Many parents report that their children are much calmer. Guest guest
Meleah, How many Virastop do you work up to???? Is Olive Leaf Extract SCD legal? Bethany > > Just wanted to throw in my two cents about the Valtrex. It definitely isn't legal, and cannot be compounded for SCD. We used it for a month. We stopped it on Feb. 2nd, and switched to Virastop (antiviral enzyme) which is SCD legal. We stopped the Valtrex primarily for financial reason(paying out of pocket, yikes!). Our DAN said that Virastop is an excellent natural antiviral though...kind of wondering why she didn't have us try that then, but whatever. It's good to start a digestive enzyme for a couple of weeks before the Virastop though. Then, you start with a small amount of Virastop(maybe 1/2 capsule, although we started with a whole one) and work your way up. > Meleah > > >
Guest guest
You work up to a total of four in a day is what she told me(two caps twice daily). OLE is SCD legal as long as you check the ingredients. I don't know what brand most people use, but it seems that most use capsules. I found a liquid form that is SCD legal also. Remember to start out slow with both of these. Meleah Re: Can anyone offer me some hope??? Meleah, How many Virastop do you work up to???? Is Olive Leaf Extract SCD legal?
