Guest guest
After your liquid and soft food phase, you can have it. You can have what you want. It's best to eat healthfully...but you can have whatever you want if your body will tolerate it. Unfortunately, I have no trouble with anything! Guest guest
Hi Cindy, The beauty of the MGB is you can eat normally in most cases. The big thing with Dr. R is we no longer have to " diet " , he says we don't have to " obsess " about food, diets, calories, fat grams etc. ANYMORE!!!! This surgery frees us of this need to " obsess " . I'm 5 months out and I still eat tacos, lasagna, spaghetti, tuna salad, ham sandwiches, steaks, burgers, meatloaf, homemade soups and stews, pot roasts, pork ribs, and the list goes on and on. You have to decided for yourself what your body will tolerate. As an example, my tummy likes a tamale with chili much better than an enchilada with chili. One tamale is all I eat and I'm full and quite satisfied. I don't eat them very often....maybe twice a month. I mainly consume fresh fruits and veggies that I dearly love. I try to eat healthy meals and I try to get lots of protein because I don't do the protein supplements. Lasagna was one of the first foods I ate after surgery. It was soft and it went down really good. It worked for me but it may not work for everyone. It's trial and error. Some people can't tolerate pastas or rice. I'm able to eat pasta and rice very well. Now french fries don't go down very well, but other types of potatoes like mashed, scalloped, creamed new potatoes, baked or potatoes that I soft fry in canola oil don't give me any problems. I went into my surgery saying goodbye to food but I didn't need to. As you can see I can still eat. A certain amount of enjoyment and comfort are no longer there, but I no longer need food as a crutch either. All I can say to you is don't worry.....you will no longer need to obsess about what you eat. Try to become healthy gain. Guest guest
My understanding is that after your first couple months of just juices and protein shakes, and then baby-type foods, you can eat anything you can tolerate as long as you're careful to chew it real well. Apparently your body will let you know real quick what it will let you taste when you have cravings and what it absolutely will reject. So, take heart, as long as you don't live on a steady diet of junk you can rest assured that nothing is strictly forbidden! At least that's what I have gathered from the patient manual. I know that a diet full of veggies, fruits & grains is suggested. But if a girl has a craving for, oh say, a TACO or a taste of lasagna or something that made the girl PHAT in the first place, can the girl have a taste of such No-No's? or are they STRICTLY NO-NO's? I understand that my craving may change (Lord, please!!), but this is something I'm interested in knowing....what if? Thanks!
