Guest guest
Welcome to the list. I would suggest that you stop chelating for a few months while your son's body adjust and heals. Chelation can be really hard on the gut, and can cause yeast problems. It's a good idea to get the yeast under control, allow his gut to begin healing, ect. before you introduce the chelating agent again. I think you will see better results if you give him some GI healing time. You do not have to discontinue dairy, but many parents do in the first several weeks because they have come to SCD dairy free. We were not dairy free, but chose to drop the dairy for the first five weeks of SCD. I wanted to make sure that I would be able to tell if he was able to tolerate any dairy or if it contributed to his behavioral issues. It would definitely be best to start off with the goat yogurt rather than cow yogurt. You will want to start him out with a small amount of the homemade 24 hour goat yogurt...maybe 1/4tsp...because it is likely to cause die off. If you give him too much, it can trigger horrendous die off that would just be very hard on him and you both. Just gradually increase the amount. You can add vanilla to the yogurt, but I don't know if you can add it before fermentation or not. Definitely read the ingredients on you vanilla label though. Most are not SCD legal. If you are concerned about whether it is or isn't, you can certainly post the ingredients here and ask for help. Meleah Chelating while starting the diet? Here's my first post. My son is 6 and has autism. We have been chelating him for 18 months using TD-DMPS and TD-EDTA.Should I discontinue the chelation while starting the diet? Second question. I read somewhere (of course now I can't find it) that I should discontinue all dairy for 2weeks befoe starting the diet. Is this true? Third question. My son loves vanilla yogurt and eats it everyday. Do I have to introduce my homemade yogurt slowly or can I just give him his typical serving which is about 4 oz. Fourth question. Can I add in the vanilla extract right from the start. Without it I know he won't eat it. Thanks, Maureen (6 yr old son with autism)
