Guest guest
Hello darren, I'm glad everything was going so well that you could leave hospital early. Good news! I know you're disappointed about the diabetes but, from what my pancreatologist told me, I think it is fairly common, when the pancreas really is in a mess, extensively calcified for example, for insufficient islet cells to be available. Don't feel an unusual failure! I know diabetes presents difficulties but I'm sure you'll learn how to manage the condition. I'm not downplaying it! I think you must expect quite a lot of pain for some time, from what others have said who have had a TP. It really is major surgery. I hope you are able to rest a lot (with a 4 year-old???!!!) and don't have to go back to work for quite a while yet. I would think it would take many months to recover from this sort of surgery and to build up the strength to carry out normal activity. I'm sure the pain will gradually weaken and leave you feeling good. I wish you the speediest and the fullest possible recovery.....but don't push too quickly! With good wishes, Fliss (UK)
