In the last year and a half, this is the first time I've heard of a banded baby getting chicken pox. I would just call the ortho and follow the advice since I have absolutely no idea how this should be dealt with.

Re: Helmet and Chicken Pox?

How frustrating! I'm sorry I can't give you any advice...>> Our 6M has had his STARband helmet for 6 weeks for plagio (back left side). We found out yesterday he has chicken pox. There are several bumps in his eye brows and on his head. Fortunately one of the bad bumps is in the top opening of the helmet so it's not touching. While there are smaller bumps in his hair, none have blistered yet. We let him wear the helmet last night while sleeping. I hate the thought of taking his helmet off and going backwards on his progress so far. Of course whatever is necessary we will do.> > Just wondering if any others have dealt with chicken pox and the helmet.> > Thanks!> Brittany> > Son - Daxton 6MO> STARband - 6 weeks w/ helmet and counting>

HI Brittany. Last November our 8 month old banded baby contracted Chicken pox. Our orthotist recommended our baby, Dara, not wear the helmet .Her forehead, face, scalp and back were covered in blisters; I was very concerned about her comfort level (itchy is no way to go through the day) and subsequent scarring. We kept her helmet off until all of her blisters was completely healed;initially it set her progress back a couple of weeks. We were able to make the two weeks up and the helmet held it's shape, still did it's job wonderfully. All went well and I really worried over nothing. My pediatrition had not seen a case of Chicken pox in several years, she was surprised!Oh, I think Dara really found relief in oatmeal baths throughout the day.I hope this helps!FaWn & DaRaDoOdlEFrom: <melanie.watson@...>Subject: Re: Re: Helmet and Chicken Pox?Plagiocephaly Date: Thursday, May 20,
