Guest guest
Hi Lesley, How are you? Better, I hope. I know you asked Kimber about enzyme strength but I thought I might just say a word. My pancreatologist prescribed 2 - 4 Creon 40,000 with each meal. These are obviously stronger than yours so my overall dose is much higher as well. I take 1 - 2 Creon 10,000 with a small snack. I think a number of specialists subscribe to the view that high doses are needed. I think, like you, that I have a high pain tolerance when it comes to CP. This is probably because I have suffered severe abdominal pain since childhood. Oddly, I don't think my pain tolerance is especially high in other respects. Why do you worry about not feeling more pain? I think the pain thing is very individual. Every case is different and people respond differently anyway. Are you worried that something is going on that you don't realise because you don't feel the pain enough? I have read more than once that the level of pain is not necessarily an indicator of the extent or severity of actual damage to the pancreas. I can attest to that. I had severe pain attacks as a child and horrendous flare-ups in the 1980's when I was approaching 40. Still, an ERCP in 1988 showed no damage!!! I now have extensive calcifications and atrophy of the pancreas but, just at the moment, my symptoms are not as bad as they were before the damage had actually occurred. I would try not to worry about the pain being bearable; just be glad but discuss your fears with the specialist. Take care and I hope you feel better, Fliss (UK)
